The Design Windows West Coast Sports Awards The West Coast Sports Awards are an opportunity to celebrate excellence in our region. This creates a great marketing opportunity for potential sponsors.

These prestigious awards recognise the outstanding contributions of our sportspeople, serving as a beacon of inspiration for others to aspire to and achieve greatness. Purpose:

The West Coast Sports Awards Trust (the trust), is a registered charitable organisation. The purpose of the trust is to run the annual West Coast Sports Awards which recognise excellence in sports achievement by West Coast sportsmen, sportswomen, teams and administrators. Awards Dinner

The Annual awards dinner is an opportunity for current and former sports people from throughout the West Coast to meet and recognise the achievements of their peers. It is also an opportunity for local businesses to interact and many choose to use the dinner to recognise their clients or staff. Held in October or November of each year, the dinner has been fortunate to have attracted speakers and MC's of a very high quality. Of significant value to the trust has been the ability to attract people who are willing to waive their usual appearance fee. Without support of that type it would not be possible to run the event at a cost which would be sustainable.

The Design Windows West Coast Sports Awards 2026 Team are excited to announce our other quest speaker for the evening is Jay Barrett !!!

The Brain and Pressure - Lessons from a Sports Psychologist, Commercial Luxury Yacht Captain and Ex-Downhill Mountain Biker.

Jay's passion is helping people perform when it matters — on the field, on the water, and at work. Using evidence-based tools, he's spent time helping athletes, coaches and teams get the most out of the one piece of equipment they can't replace: The brain between their ears.

Jay pulls his knowledge from a range of areas. From competing as an athlete on the world stage, to working in high-pressure sports environments as a performance psychologist, to captaining commercial luxury yachts, Jay has spent his career around people who have to deliver under pressure. He now works with teams on psychological performance — but the lessons are the same ones that decide close games.

Jay will share what he has learned along the way: how the brain behaves under pressure, why talent alone doesn't hold up on the big day, and a few practical things any athlete, coach or parent on the sideline can use.

Jay is a Registered Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and holds a Masters Degree in Psychology.
Jay has supported people in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, America, the Middle East, the UK, Europe and South Africa.
