Sorry folkes- I didn't keep you up to date with our weekend excursion to Taupo.
Dressage on Saturday was a bit of a mixture for Arden. Her first ride was on Jo who hadnt competed at Taupo since his injury there over 10yrs ago. He obviously still remembered the place though and this meant his dressage suffered a bit because he got a little too excited. Arden did a great job of containing him but it still made his score a bit disappointing. Foo on the other hand was his cool calm self in the dressage and produced a lovely test.
Then in the afternoon came the showjumping - due to a bit of a timetable c**k up it meant that Arden had to go straight to jumping Foo after her dressage but he took it in his stride and jumped a lovely clear round. Jo was her last ride this time and puddle round the 80cm round not really giving it his best effort. Arden is still learning how to jump Jo - he needs a big bouncy canter for him to jump properly and this was only Ardens 2nd time eventing him at 80cms so we can expect a few hiccups. He came away with 2 rails down but we were still happy with how things were going with both horses. After an early night on Sat we woke up to poring rain and blowing a gale which was going to make the xc phase quite challenging. Luckily the rain had stopped by the time xc started so it was just the wind to contend with. This is were both boys came into their element and Jo showed that even at 20yrs old he still has the love of xc. Both Jo and Foo showed their experience by just taking the course in their stride. Neither of them had really worked up a sweat when they came through the finish flags - infact i think they thought that was just the warm up and where the big jumps.
Final scores were Arden and Foo in 12th and Arden and Jo in 18th which wasnt bad at all because we realised they were entered in the wrong class which was for the more experienced riders chasing prize money.

Well here we go. Travelled up to Taupo yesterday with the Merritt family in the truck and Jo and Foo.
Horses settled in well last night and have had a good rest ready for today.
Ardens first dressage test is on Jo and she has headed out to give him a nice long walk before her test. Will update as the day goes on

Practise Day - Tomorrow at Kyrewood Equestrian Park.
For all those heading to Taupo for the weekend, here is a chance to have a last minute practise at either / all of the disciplines.
The xc paddock has a few new jumps in it
The back arena is set up for showjumping
There is a 20 x 60m dressage arena set up in the show paddock
Blanket fee $25.
I will be available all day from 10am to 6pm to coach ( if help is needed ) - $25/half hr
Kyrewood Saddlery will be open from 10am to 6pm for any last minute supplies needed for you or your horse - all at Spring Sale Prices

EXCITING NEWS EVERYONE - Next stage of Main Arena rebuild here at Kyrewood is under way.
The laser machine is now here to create the perfect fall on the arena base to optimise the drainage for the new surface to be laid on. Meanwhile Peter from Arena Surfaces NZ is busy creating the perfect blend of sand/stone etc ready to be laid in the next week or two ( weather dependant)

The main arena is now stripped bare, a drainage pipe has been laid and now we wait for the laser people to come and precisely measure the gradient of fall we need on the base to optimise drainage so that when the new surface arrives it will be laid on a well prepared base in order to provide a top level arena surface for both grass root riders and top level riders also.
A big shout out to
Paddy Toyne of LA Lanscapes who has done all the hard work so far and is also on board to help with other projects around Kyrewood
Arena Surfaces NZ who have provided expert advice on the sort of surface we need and will be supplying said surface when we are ready for it.
Watch this space for when the New Main Arena will be ready and open to the public.
This is just the next step in building KYREWOOD EQUESTRIAN PARK up into a complete Training/Schooling facility for riders from every discipline and all abilities.
My goal is to have coaches/ clinics/ seminars etc coming in to hopefully help riders achieve their dreams and who knows maybe the the first stepping stone for a future Olympic hopefully.
We greatly appreciate all the support we have had so far and we look forward to seeing many more of you making use of our facility in the future as we build and expand.
