Now with two Qualified Personal Trainers π
Last year in June, I wanted to dive deeper into supporting my students and all Equestrians, and started Be the Smashing Equestrian with my trainer and friend Naomi Howlett Personal Training .
In August, I realized that I wanted to learn it all and started studying online to become a Personal Trainer. It was a one year course, and I am so pleased to let you all know that this week I have passed all my assignments, Assessments and practical assignments and am now a qualified Personal Trainer ππ₯³
For my students, that means you are now benefitting from a Riding Instructor and Vaulting Coach, that is also a Personal Trainer and Yoga Instructor and has a vast knowledge of training, Anatomy, Nutrition,Sport Specific Training, and your individual needs to be the best Equestrian for your horse! I have learnt so much this year, and have been implementing loads already βΊοΈ
For me personally, it means that I am ready to support new Clients in their Health and Well-being journey, as well as confidentially and with loads of knowledge and science behind me, can support my existing Students on and off the horse also π
It has been a pretty tough year I must admit! No help from Working Students and Farmstays, the most amount of weekly students I have ever had, plus studying.
But it's done now, and I am super excited π
Lessons are starting again tomorrow!!

My Yoga goals are being able to cope with inversions for longer and holding them independently without the wall π

This has been my trimming goal!! Hind leg resting on my upper legs while I have two hands free to trim π
Doesn't look like much, but means a lot to me π₯°
Due to my concussions, having my head down is extremely hard on me and I used to have to rest up after a full trim or just not do it as well as I'd like. Especially the hinds, especially in summer!!
So happy to be able to have the strength in my legs and back to stay low enough, having both hands to work with and being able to do a full trim without holding my head down means so much!!

In my lessons, more than half of what we do and what the students learn, is for the benefit of the horse. This assures a happy horse, but also a student that will eventually understand and recognise weaknesses and will know how to work with those and improve the horses' overall well-being, working the right muscles.
I feel, a rider should be almost like a Personal Trainer for the horse. Knowing when to push hard and how, knowing when to stretch and relax, when to do hill work, when working on straightness or bending, etc.
I try to be the Cheerleader while I teach, but when I ride I am that Personal Trainer πͺ
Today was one of those days for Yasmina... She's been lazy, on the forehand, stiff, and neither of those are helping her out being a big CB x TB.
She'll feel that tomorrow βΊοΈ
And possibly so will I π

This afternoon two of my students (one being my daughter) joined my Gym's Kids Bootcamp Class as they were keen to get a Workout in after enjoying mine during Camp π
Well done girls - you smashed it πͺ And I'm so excited to see their faces go from smiling to having to work hard during the Workouts. That's what it's really about!! Knowing it's hard work, knowing they'll be sore tomorrow, but giving it all they have after all, because they have goals β€οΈ

A great evening with the riders from Gordonton Pony Club tonight.
They are having their Camp at Te Uku Pony Club and it was so awesome sharing some Goal Setting Strategies and Tools to flip our negative feelings to Positive with them π

This Morning at Riding Camp we talked about the importance of strength, stamina, flexibility and breathing when working with horses.
A 15 minute Workout - 100 of each shared:
Burpees
Mountain climbers
Squat Jump
Superman
Toe touches
Lunges
Taking turns, supporting, pushing hard πͺ
Well done π
Be the Smashing Equestrian - never too young to understand the bigger picture and work towards a healthy and safer way of being around horses πͺπ
They rated this at an 8.5 out 10 for tough and did so well π Super proud of their determination and Team Work

This Morning at Riding Camp, we took an hour to dig deep and talk about our feelings and how we are in control of them and the girls got tools to flip them from negative to positive. We took action and then worked on our goals and what's in the way of them.
When asked if being on their phone leaves them with posivite or negative vibes, they all responded with negative!!
Great awareness and learning π

Also the thought of getting in touch with their feelings was daunting at first, they all trusted me and shared π
