Have you ever wondered what is the difference between you and a professional? Sometimes, in the driving range we have a lot of pretty good shots and everything seems to be under control but why when we go play in a real game our score is so different from professional ?
This video is a good video to show the difference between us and the professionals. In the video, there is a low handicap guy playing with a professional golfer. It also explains the different in low handicap players and professional players as well as the different between how we look at each shot.
If we know what is the difference then we can improve that difference and try to close the gap between us and the professionals.
Hope you enjoy the video.

When I first play golf, the club that I enjoy hitting the most is the driver. Driver is the longest club in the golf set that people usually use when they tee off as it is the club that is supposed to hit the furthest in the golf set. When I started golfing, the really first goal was to hit very far like others so I enjoy trying to smash my driver as hard as I can to make it go as far as possible. However, at one point I realized that it is not only about power but also about techniques.
Driver is the longest club in the gold bag and the way we suppose to hit it is totally different from iron. This video we talk about how to set up and the ball position for the driver as well as some techniques that make you hit your driver further.
Let's smash the driver with the techniques to make it go as far as possible :)

Who does not want to have a big hit in golf ? It is a very common goal for all golfers that they want to hit further than now and it is also a dream of many golfers to have a massive hit. Sure that hitting very far has something to do with your physical but it is not only about it. Increase the strength does not necessarily say that you will hit further. The important part to make people hit further is the club head speed before you hit the ball. Good news is it does not require a lot of physical strength, people can simply improve it by just practice faster body rotation.
Here are drills that I think will be very useful to make golfers hit further and hopefully it makes you guys enjoy your game more too.

Every golf club in your bag is different. We use different clubs to hit different distances so that's why every club needs to be different in order for us to get the different distance when we hit. From sand wedge to driver, they all have different lengths and angles that distinguish the clubs from others.
Because of that, our setup and ball position for every club should not be the same, different clubs need their own setting to make sure we get the right angle of impact and make the best impact as possible. There are no fixed rules for ball position as people have their own references and what they are comfortable with, however there is still a guideline that what most people do in order to make them have a good impact.
This video shows ball position for different clubs. It does not show every single club but we divide the club into different types such as short club, middle club, long club and driver.
Hope it helps :)

Lots of time when I go practice and something does not seem right, I always try to see what is wrong with my swing. However, sometimes we need to look a little deeper than the swing. Sometimes we need to see what are the causes that make us have a bad swing.
One of the mistakes I used to make when I started golf is that I tried to focus on the swing so much that I forgot to check my set-up. If our set up is wrong, there is a high chance that would affect our swing negatively therefore it is really important that we always check our set up before we start our swing.
This video is showing the basic setup for iron swing. It talks about grip and a little bit of posture that are important for golf setup so hopefully it can be the guideline for some of you guys that are wondering what is wrong with your swing.
Maybe it's just the set up that you need to change and it will fix your swings too :)

In the last post I was talking about how pressure can have a good effect on your performance as long as it is not too much so today I want to share my idea about how to pressure yourself to improve your performance.
After we finished lockdown, I got a chance to go play golf with my friends again for the first time in a while. Our main goal for the round is to exercise with no competition or anything serious, however before I played I talked to my other friend about my score prediction for the first round in a while. In the first couple holes, I shoot really bad which makes me pressure myself even more since I want to keep my score low and not over what me and my friend predicted. However, the more I pressure myself, the worse I play and eventually I shoot way over my predicted score even before I finish that round. Surprisingly, after I hit over my prediction and care least about my score, I suddenly played better.
My point is that because we all just come back to play for the first time in a while, we should not put too much pressure on ourselves. It is alright if your first round is going to be way worse than the last time we played. Maybe we should set the standard a bit lower than our usual, that way we still put a little bit pressure on ourselves but not too much that it ruins your game.
Set a sensible goal, allow yourself some mistakes but still enough to put little pressure on yourself.
Most importantly, enjoy your game :)

As New Zealand are moving to level 2 on Thursday, many golfers probably look forward to going back to the field and playing their first game with friends after being stuck at home for a while. However, because we all have not played for a very long time our performance might drop surprisingly and maybe stress some of the golfers out.
The more stress and pressure you have for yourself could lead to even worse performance. Who likes to play golf under a lot of pressure? We usually find ourselves playing badly whenever we are dealing with too much pressure such as the last hole of the round of the putt that can result in winning or losing a game. Many amateurs would decrease their performance when they got put in under pressure. So does it mean pressure is bad ??
There is a theory called the “Inverted U hypothesis” that explains really well about pressure and performance. According to this theory, if the pressure is too low then our performance would be bad as well. The performance would rise up when we increase the pressure, however after a certain point of pressure ( the peak ), the performance would start to decrease even though pressure is still increasing. It shows that pressure can actually have a good impact on performance as long as it is not too much. This can be applied directly to golf or any sport as we can try to apply the pressure to yourself just a little to try to maximise our performance.
Don't forget to pressure yourself in the next round but also don't pressure yourself too much :)

Is flexibility important for golfers? Flexibility is a very important part of many sports. It is pretty well known as helping reduce the chance of injury in any sports. However, for the golfer, flexibility does not only help golfers reduce the chance of injury, it is also part of the swing and by improving flexibility the golfer will more likely to improve the score too.
According to Neil Bennet, flexibility can promote consistent and powerful swing by
Reducing unwanted compensations
Maintaining posture
Full unrestricted shoulder turn
Golf swings use many muscles in our body which make it really important for golfers to look after those muscles well. If we only use those muscles without stretching there is a very high chance of injury which can lead to not being able to play golf anymore.
This is a video about yoga for golfers. It should help golfers in the lockdown now to maintain or increase their flexibility so when the time comes, they will be able to play golf again and will not get injured. However, different people have different flexibility therefore this video may not be suitable to everyone. If you follow the video and you feel pain in your muscle, I would recommend to stop doing it as it could lead to more serious injury.
Have a nice weekend :)

Chipping is another important golf skill that you can practice at home. For most amature golfers, we are still not very consistent about the approach shot. It may happen for a lot of reasons such as the swing, the aiming or even the pressure. However, the most important golf for golf is “the next shot”. After we fail to approach the green we need to think about what we need to do in order to minimise the score. That is the part where chipping skills become really important.
Chip shot is one of the shots that we need to be very precise and it is very easy to make mistakes when we do it under pressure as it is a shot after we fail with the original plan and need to try to minimise the damage. This also includes that if we chip very well and can do 1 put then it is still a par which means we do not lose any stroke even though we didn't approach the green with the shot we tried.
Most amatures can reduce their handicap rapidly after they improve their chipping skills so if you are looking to improve your score, this may be very helpful for you. Moreover, it is a skill that we can practice in your own backyard which is really suitable for this situation.
This video is talking about 3 tips of chipping which are standing, back swing and body motion. We can use this as the guideline to check with our chipping at the motion to see if we need to change anything to improve chipping skills.
Hope it's helpful :)

Putting is a very important skill. In fact, if you hit a regular on in every holes and you shot even par (72), your putting would be half of it (36). Putting is a small shot that most people tend to look over the importance of putting, however in the real game putting plays a very big role on the scores. In fact for high handicap people, if we can improve our putting, we usually see a rapid drop of the score. Try counting how many 3 puts you make from the last round and if we change it to 2 put, how many strokes can you decrease!!?
This video is a video that I found very useful for me. It talks about putting skill. It talks about the putting angle, putting rhythm and also gives us some drills that we can practice at home to improve the putting skills. Hopefully it would help you guys too

It is really hard for us as the golfers to practice during this lockdown time because driving rages and golf clubs are all close so what should we do?
Golf is a sport that uses a lot of muscles and if you have not practiced for a while, you would see a big difference in your score card when you go out and play again. But what can we do to practice, when golf is a sport that needs a big place to hit but you can only stay at home?
Due to the space we have, maybe we are not able to practice our driver and irons with the full swing, however with the little space, we still can practice your putting and chipping in the backyard. Putting and chipping is not what we usually practice a lot but it is a very important shot and it we easily mess up if we have not practiced enough as once it comes to chipping and putting we want it to be very precise and get to the whole as much as possible.
Here are some basic putting and chipping setup videos that you can use to check for yourself at home. Set up is very important for good short shots and we want to make sure to get it right if we want to improve on it.
