Believe it or not, planning for next season is already underway! We're working on competitions, programmes, and ideas to make the 2026/27 season even better for everyone.
🏏 Supporting Our Clubs:
We'll be catching up with clubs, volunteers, coaches, and community members over the coming months to share ideas, provide support, and continue building a strong cricket community.
🎓 Developing Our People:
Coaching, umpiring and volunteer support - winter is a great time to learn new skills and prepare for the season ahead.
🏫Growing The Game:
We're also planning junior cricket and school programmes to help introduce more young people to the game and keep cricket growing across the region.
☕ Staying Connected:
While there might not be any matches on, cricket conversations never stop! We would love to hear from our clubs and members, so don't hesitate to reach out, share ideas, or let us know what's happening in your cricket community.

Hi Waikato Valley, I’m Louise Ramsay, and I’m excited to share that I’ve started as Operations Manager with Waikato Valley Cricket Association 🏏
Grassroots cricket is something I’m very passionate about.
Over the past four seasons, I’ve been fortunate to work across several cricket development roles, with Counties Manukau Cricket Association and Northern Districts, helping grow participation, support community engagement, and create positive cricket experiences. I’ve also loved contributing at club level through women’s social cricket and junior coaching.
As a parent of two kids who play cricket, I see firsthand the value the game brings to young people, families, and communities, which makes this next opportunity even more meaningful to me.
I’d also like to acknowledge and thank all the volunteers, coaches, players and families from last season for your time, energy, and passion you put into the game. Community cricket simply doesn’t happen without your effort and commitment, and the impact you make across our clubs and communities is hugely appreciated.
I’m looking forward to this next chapter with Waikato Valley Cricket Association and continuing to grow the game, strengthen community pathways, and support the future of grassroots cricket across our communities.
Here’s to an exciting season ahead! 🏏✨

It is with great sadness that Waikato Valley Cricket acknowledges the passing of John Garry Kelliher.
John was a much-loved part of the Waikato Valley Cricket community. For well over a decade he gave so generously of his time, energy and heart to our game.
His passion for Waikato Valley Cricket, our Men’s team and Cambridge Cricket was clear to all who knew him, and his contribution will not be forgotten. People like John are the heartbeat of community sport, and we are incredibly grateful for everything he gave.
Our heartfelt condolences go to Karen, Dillon and Emma, along with all of John’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
John’s family warmly invite those who knew him to join them in celebrating his life this Friday 29 May at 2pm at Cambridge Town Hall, to share memories, stories and laughs in honour of a very special man.
Rest in peace, JK. Thank you for everything you gave to Waikato Valley Cricket. You will be greatly missed. 🕊️

A Waikato Valley Cricket Association Life Member, it cannot be overstated how much of an influence Mike Cotter has had on cricket in the northern parts of our region. Mike still actively attending senior club and representative fixtures earlier this season, with a very keen eye on the proceedings.
A right-arm offspinner and left hand bat, Mike represented Thames Valley with distinction from 1960/61 through to 1982/83. In 1967 Mike took 5 wickets for Thames Valley in the famous two day victory over the touring Fiji national side at Paeroa College. In 1970 Mike journeyed with the New Zealand Ambassadors team, taking 6 for 41 to skittle Argentina while also defeating Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, picking up 5 for 51 against Somers Isles (Bermuda) and claiming many wickets against the various southern US states they played. Mike also played several games for King Country/Thames Valley and Midlands/Thames Valley, precursors to the Waikato Valley we know today.
Affiliated with, and representing Paeroa throughout his life, Mike successfully led the charge on a number of projects, including being on the board that drained and levelled land for playing fields, and constructing a pavilion at Centennial Park in Paeroa. In 2016 with Dev Sangha, Mike re-established Premier cricket in Paeroa, although unfortunately senior cricket is again no longer played there. Friends of Mike freely comment on how parochial he was for local cricket, although as time wore on and playing numbers decreased, this sphere of influence naturally increased outside of Paeroa.
2007 saw Mike awarded the prestigious Sir Jack Newman award by New Zealand Cricket for his outstanding service to the development of junior cricket in the Waikato Valley, having coached young cricketers since 1961. The Waikato Valley Premier teams compete for the Mike Cotter Cup, the prized trophy in the district, and a number of his prodigies are still playing key roles in many of our club and representative teams.
On Saturday our Mens side wore black armbands against Hamilton to acknowledge Mike, and we encourage all our club to do so this weekend, along with a moments silence before their matches.
Thank you Mike
