We had a great event over the weekend. Thank you for your wonderful support of the Waikato 100.
I have an apology to make. For the end of the registration evening Friday I had organised a Maori representative to give a karakia. I forgot to ask him up at that time. If that wasn't bad enough, I then repeated the omission at the end of the event yesterday.
Just as bad, I didn't realise the err of my ways until today while driving to Auckland. I then contacted one of our cultural advisors to give an apology. He was very humble and said it was ok and not to worry.
However, it's not ok. The karakia is an important part of the Waikato 100: It is a plea to the spirit world for all who are involved with it be safe both physically and spiritually.
A huge thanks to our cultural advisors of the event. We will do better next year!
