Leading together also teaches the babies to pivot around calmly at a gate.
Here you can see Dolly is a little hesitant to step forward between the two bigger horses, but they are calm and she realizes that it's ok. Dave moves Welly a little so she has more room.
Then they wait patiently to have their halters taken off.
Dolly is nearly 8 months old and Welly is rising 3 years and already they are so easy to do stuff with. Welly had a superb start at Chatto Creek Stud before coming here and Dolly was born at Flying Horse.

We do alot of handling like this as the young horses learn from the older ones.
The babies learn to match their stride to the handler and other horses, stay in a line, stop and start on cue. If they play up, they are told off by the older horses.
We deliberately planted out our property to encourage birds and a huge variety now make Flying Horse their home.
Tui, fantails, wood pigeons, waxeyes, little brown owls, kingfishers, herons and bell birds. This chubby bellbird has been singing away for over an hour.

Too wet and cold for lessons so we're splitting wood and stacking for next winter.
What are you up to today?

Welly's wise words (from his Aunty Stacey š„°)
We've had Claire Smith from Clandeb Performance Horses down again for western training.
Gosh I'm so enjoying this journey into western riding! Today we went indoors as the weather was absolutely atrocious. I thought last weekend was bad but today was just feral!
Summer objected strongly to being ridden in the RDA arena (it's not her favorite place due to surface, but it has improved since last time she was there so she really had nothing to whinge about!) so I had to really ride, and I did! I'm so proud of myself and she did some lovely work at the end.
Alysha and Gracey had 2 barrel racing lessons and, oh my gosh, they were amazing.
There's so much technique involved and it was fascinating listening to Claire and seeing the improvement in each run.
Huge thanks to Liv Johnston for organizing again.
Dolly is absolutely in love with Liv Johnston's horse Molson. She doesn't care about Gracey or Summer leaving, but if Molson leaves its a different story!
Bear is the kindest, gentlest dog we've ever had.
He does this with all our horses , and visiting ones!
