We’re excited to announce our Southland NHC teams, who are heading to Wellington to compete at the National Hockey Championships, starting this Sunday!

🏑 U16 FESTIVAL TEAMS ANNOUNCED! 🏑

We’re excited to announce our Southland U16 Boys and Girls Festival Teams who will be heading to Christchurch for the Alpiners Festival! 🔥

📍 Christchurch
📅 5–9 October 2026

This is a fantastic opportunity for our young Southland players to compete against teams from around the South Island, gain valuable tournament experience, and represent Southland.

The teams will continue their preparation at Clutha Cup this weekend in Dunedin!

🏑 SOUTHLAND U16 NATIONAL TEAMS ANNOUNCED! 🏑

We’re excited to officially announce our Southland U16 Boys and Girls Teams who will represent Southland at their respective national tournaments this October!

📍 Boys: Auckland
📍 Girls: Christchurch
📅 3–7 October

Both teams have been working hard in preparation and will continue their build-up this weekend at the Clutha Cup in Dunedin on Saturday.

We are very excited to launch our latest Experience - NZ Heartland Senior Men/Women v Australia Country Senior Men/Women, which will take place in April 2027 here in NZ. We will select teams following this years NHC.

To be eligible, players CAN'T play for North Harbour, Auckland, Waikato, Wellington, Canterbury or Otago. U18/U21 and Black Sticks players, will also be ineligible due to existing programs being offered to these players such as FHL and JHL.

This initiative is targeted at senior players from regional Associations. To give these players something to aspire to and chase, while playing at NHC. Eligible players competing at this years NHC will be playing for Northland, Counties, Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, Hawkes Bay, Whanganui, Manawatu, Wairarapa, Tasman, South Canterbury, Central Otago, Southland and NZ Army.

Selections of Players and Coaching/Management Staff will be made by The Hockey Experience. This is not an official Hockey NZ program or team. The Hockey Experience is a private company.

There is no need to register your interest. We will contact players with more information/costs in advance of announcing our teams to confirm availability.

Southland Hockey is looking for a Hockey Development Officer to help grow the game across Southland.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with schools, clubs, coaches, players and communities to strengthen participation and create positive hockey experiences for tamariki and rangatahi throughout the region.
Based at the ILT Turf in Invercargill, you'll play a key role in:
✅ Delivering school and community hockey programmes
✅ Supporting player and coach development
✅ Coordinating competitions and representative pathways
✅ Growing participation across Southland
✅ Creating fun opportunities for people to get involved in hockey

Our year 5/6 Worlds Festival is on today, at the Invercargill turfs!

Please remember to bring CASH for the BBQ being run by our U16 Girls team, fundraising ahead of their national tournament!

One of the best things about my role is getting to celebrate & honour our Junior umpires. These awesome humans show up every week to umpire our primary & intermediate players, not only learning umpiring skills themselves, but in most cases also teaching the junior players the rules as well. They often do more than one game in an afternoon & always with smiles on their faces. Pizza, awards & great company - never a bad way to end the season.
