🥉 BRONZE MEDALLISTS! 🥉

The boys have finished their Nationals campaign with a well-deserved bronze medal after a semi-final against a very strong Alexandra side.

Alexandra came out firing, but what impressed us most was the determination of our Kaikōura side. They never dropped their heads, never gave up, and kept fighting right to the very end.

With the result already beyond reach in the final end, they could have shaken hands and called it there. Instead, they chose to play the final end anyway—a true reflection of the character, resilience, and pride this team has shown throughout the tournament.

To even qualify for Nationals was an incredible achievement. To then battle through pool play, win their quarter-final, and finish the tournament with a bronze medal is something they should be immensely proud of.

Congratulations, champs. You’ve represented our club with pride, sportsmanship, and heart. We couldn’t be prouder of what you’ve achieved.

🥉 FOURS MEN OFFICIALLY IN THE MEDALS! 🥉

What a day for our men’s Champion of Champions Fours team in Dunedin!

The lads have battled their way through to the post sections, won their quarter-final against St Clair with a massive 20-4 margin, and have now guaranteed themselves a medal at the National Championships. An outstanding achievement and one we’re all incredibly proud of.

The semi-finals were no easy feat across the board. Waihopai dominated their quarter-final to secure their place, while the other two games were incredibly close, proving just how competitive this championship is.

Next up, our boys take on Alexandra in the semi-final at 11:15am. They are now just two wins away from turning that guaranteed medal into an even better colour! 💪

Champion of Champions – National Fours

Our Champion of Champions Men’s Fours team - Eric Allison, Barry O’Neil, Craig Smith and Leroy Waihirere - is down in Dunedin over the next few days, proudly representing not only our club but the entire Marlborough region at the National Champion of Champions tournament.

A strong opening day saw the lads finish with 2 wins from 3 games:
🏆 Defeated Elmwood 15–12
❌ Went down to Browns Bay 9–13
🏆 Defeated Wairoa 14–11

A fantastic start to the tournament and plenty to build on heading into tomorrow. The boys are back in action at 11:30am, where they’ll take on Featherston in their first game of Day 2.

The Kaikōura Bowling Club extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bobby Mawer following his passing.

It has been a sad few days for bowlers across New Zealand, and especially throughout our Marlborough clubs, as we come to terms with the loss of yet another well-known and respected member of our bowling community.

Bobby was known to many of our bowlers through his tireless work with Marlborough Bowls. His passion for the game, willingness to share his knowledge, and dedication to helping others develop their skills made a lasting impact on countless players.

Whether on the green, in the coaching space, or supporting the sport behind the scenes, Bobby’s contribution to bowls will be remembered by many.

Our thoughts are with Bobby’s family, friends, clubmates, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest easy, Bobby. Thank you for all you gave to our game.

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Joshy Boyd.

Josh was one of Kaikōura Bowling Club’s finest representatives and an outstanding ambassador for our club. His achievements on the greens were remarkable, earning his first national title while still at high school — the first of many medals and accolades throughout his bowling career.

Josh represented Kaikōura with pride wherever he played and was someone our club was incredibly proud to call one of our own. He was respected by teammates, opponents and friends alike, and his loss will be felt deeply throughout our bowling whānau.

While our hearts are heavy, we can take some comfort in knowing that Josh is now reunited with his dad and Brownie. We like to think the three of them are back together on a perfect green somewhere, rolling bowls and doing what they did best — before sitting on the bank afterwards, critiquing everyone else’s form and reminding them how it should be done.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Josh’s family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Josh will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and never forgotten.

Busy Weekend of Champion of Champions Bowls! ☀️

It’s been a big weekend for the Kaikōura Bowling Club with Champion of Champions action taking place across Marlborough.

On Saturday, the Singles were hosted by Picton where LeRoy and Julie proudly represented Kaikōura. Julie had a tough start and was unfortunately knocked out in her first game. LeRoy, however, fought his way through round play to earn himself a spot in the final against Simon Hitchcock (Riverside) for the Singles Champion of Champions title. It was a great battle, with LeRoy leading for much of the match. A couple of costly ends late in the game saw momentum swing, and Simon eventually took the win 21–17. A fantastic effort from LeRoy nonetheless.

Today it was our turn to host the Fours here in Kaikōura, and what a day of bowls it turned out to be. Arguably some of the most exciting matches seen on our green in quite some time.

Our ladies team showed plenty of fight but unfortunately left their run just a little too late and narrowly missed out on a place in the semifinals.

Our men’s team, however, were outstanding throughout the day. The semifinals were absolute battles — Kaikōura vs Renwick on one green, while Havelock and Riverside fought it out on the other. Both games were incredibly tight with no team giving an inch, and both matches went to an extra end.

The final Kaikōura vs Riverside was just as gripping. End after end it remained close, with neither side able to break away. Two extra ends were killed before the third and final extra end saw the Kaikōura boys pick up a four — sealing the win and crowning them 2026 Marlborough Men’s Fours Champion of Champions! 🏆

This result now sees them heading away to Nationals, which is an awesome achievement for the team and the club.

After the last event (the 7s) was called off early due to torrential rain, it was great to see bowls played in beautiful conditions. Although the morning started off with a bit of fog, it soon lifted and the sun came out, making for a perfect day on the green.

A huge congratulations to everyone who played and thank you to all who came down to support and help make the day such a success. 👏
