WINTER TOURNAMENT CAPTAINS REPORT - Equestrian written by Jamie Symes

Jamie and her horse Bossman Buddy had a fun and successful week at NISS. Jamie was part of a composite team with riders from Aquinas and ACG.
We are still waiting for the overall team results and for the quiz team results.

With the event having over 500 riders and Buddy being a fairly inexperienced horse, we didn’t expect to come away with placings but Buddy stepped up beautifully, earning a 5th place ribbon in the horse 90-100cm showjumping in his first ever round in the high pressure atmosphere of the indoor arena.

He followed this up with a 13th in his other SJ class, again out of 41 competitors. Jamie and Buddy also jumped clear over a challenging 95cm arena eventing course (a mixture of show jumps and cross country jumps).

Buddy surprised us all by doing a great job in his first ever mounted games competition, despite being extremely tall compared to your average games horse.
Out of 30 senior competitors, Jamie and Buddy not only made it into the A final (of 6) but did so in first place.

The final was fast and fierce and, although he kept it together, being an ex racehorse he got a little strong at times and they ended up in 5th place overall. Which we were all really pleased with.

We had an extremely full on but fun week, enjoyed catching up with friends from around the North Island and representing Katikati College one last time.

AIMS GAMES 2026 – DAY 5

FUTSAL
The boys finished up AIMS 24th out of 56 with 3 wins throughout the tournament.
A great performance from the boys, especially as football players adapting to futsal!

BASKETBALL
The boys played two games yesterday, resulting in a loss and a convincing 20–15 win against Whangārei Intermediate!
Big day today with their first game against Te Puke Intermediate. Play hard, boys!

NETBALL
Much like the basketball team, the girls recorded a loss and a win yesterday, capped off by an incredible 23–12 victory in the evening. They have an 11:00 AM game this morning. The girls have been playing since Sunday, so it has been an incredibly long week for them!

MIXED RIPPA
The Rippa team was on fire, taking two wins against Aquinas and John Paul, alongside a loss against Napier. Today is their final day of games as they play off in the 65–72 bracket out of 100 teams.

GIRLS FOOTBALL
The girls were in fine form yesterday with a huge 7–1 win! Whether winning or losing, they remain positive and lift each other up. They have two games today, and with that victory under their belt, they will be hungry for another!

MIXED HOCKEY
The level of hockey at AIMS is top-notch. Even though they have scored goals, the team is still searching for their first win. We have your back, team!

NZ ARCHERY IN SCHOOLS - 2ND PLACE

Cole has achieved an outstanding 2nd place in the Limited Recurve Intermediate category for the NZ Archery in Schools competition!

Representing the Tauranga Archery Club & Katikati College, Cole put on a brilliant performance to score an impressive 270 for term 2.

AIMS GAMES 2026 – DAY 4

FUTSAL
Both games went to thrilling penalty shootouts, with the first game going all the way to 17 penalty kicks! Unfortunately, we lost both in the end. The team heads into Day 5 playing off for 23rd and 24th place!

BASKETBALL
The boys fought hard through two tough games, coming away with two close losses.
The boys really came to life in their last 1/4 and put some really great points on the board to close the gap, day 5 is their day!

NETBALL
The girls delivered a stellar performance in their second game, claiming an outstanding 26–6 win to lift team spirits!

MIXED RIPPA
With a win and a loss today, the team is sitting comfortably in the 65–80 bracket out of 100 teams!

GIRLS FOOTBALL
The girls had two very close losses, which don't reflect just how hard they fought on the field!
I hear day 5 was their day!
A huge shout-out to Fotheringhame Contractors for shouting the girls a tank of fuel to get them to Gordon Spratt Reserve and back each day, we are so lucky to be surrounded it such a great community!

MIXED HOCKEY
The team put in a great effort through two losses, including a very tight 2–1 match against Tuakau.

SURFING
Individual: Toby placed 4th in his heat. Cooper took 1st in his heat to reach the quarterfinals, finishing 3rd in a tough heat, just missing out on the top 2 needed for the semifinals!
Teams: Toby and Cooper joined forces with three boys from Papamoa College and did an awesome job competing in very tough ocean conditions both days!

SWIMMING
Competing against a stacked field of 125 swimmers in her age group, Elise achieved Personal Bests in every single event:
50m Freestyle
50m Backstroke
100m Freestyle
200m Freestyle
Woohoo! Fantastic effort, Elise!

AIMS GAMES 2026 - DAY 3

GYMNASTICS
Frankie-Lee is in fine form again, winning the Artistic Twisters floor! Way to go!

BOYS FUTSAL
After a loss yesterday against Pukekohe Intermediate, the boys faced Bethlehem College in a match that ended in a 3–3 draw. It came down to a penalty shootout where KKC came out victorious with a 4–3 win!

GIRLS FOOTBALL
The girls had a tough day on the pitch yesterday with a close 1–0 loss to Northcross Intermediate (who placed 2nd overall last year. a huge effort from our girls!). They also had a 5–1 loss against Raroa Normal Intermediate. With a new day ahead, we think it's their turn for a win!

BOYS BASKETBALL
Their first game saw a nail-biting 21–20 WIN against Remuera Intermediate! Their second game was tough going against Berkley, resulting in a loss.

MIXED HOCKEY
Hockey was up against a very strong Taupo Intermediate side with two extremely quick strikers, making it tough to defend in a 6–0 loss.

NETBALL
The girls fought hard through two very tough games against Kingsway and Matamata Intermediate, coming away with two losses.

MIXED RIPPA RUGBY
The Rippa team had two losses yesterday, but a little bird told us they secured a win in their game this morning!

Today is a beautiful day for AIMS! Go KKC!

WINTER TOURNAMENT CAPTAINS REPORT - Netball written by Roseanne Moeakiola-Martin

The KKC Senior Netball Team came 5th in our division it’s something we can all be incredibly proud of, especially after battling through some tough, windy and rainy conditions. We finished the tournament with an amazing 8 wins out of 10 games, showing the determination, resilience and hard work we put in throughout the tournament. Despite the weather, we stayed committed, positive and determined right through to our final game, where we secured 5th place against Waihi College.

This tournament was about so much more than the results. We made the most of our rest and recovery, kept the positivity high both on and off the courts, and created some awesome bonding experiences with our juniors. These are the moments and memories that made the week/season so special.

A massive thank you to our amazing coach, Anahera Mohi, for your guidance, encouragement and belief in us throughout the tournament. And to our incredible manager, Keren Woodward, thank you for everything you do behind the scenes to keep us organised, supported and looked after. We genuinely couldn’t have done it without you both!

Proud of the way we showed up, proud of the way we supported each other, and proud of what we achieved together. 5th in the division, 8 wins from 10 games — but so many wins beyond the scores.

And now, we hand it over to next year’s team, heading into the C Grade division! Take everything you’ve learnt, carry the memories, keep the positivity, and continue building the bond between everyone.

AIMS GAMES 2026 - DAY 2

3x3 Basketball
A huge final day on the court! After some tough battles in the top 16, the boys finished an incredible 12th place overall! What an amazing achievement. A massive thank you to student coach Khushraj Singh and manager Candice Thomas for leading the team!

Cross Country
Frankie-Lee smashed the Year 8 Cross Country, finishing 60th out of a huge field of 173 runners. Fantastic effort, Frankie-Lee!

Futsal
After two extremely close losses yesterday, the boys are playing off in the 1–32 bracket. We know they’ll leave it all on the court today!

WINTER TOURNAMENT CAPTAINS REPORT - Girls football written by Coby Taylor

The KKC First XI Girls Football team had a great time away at tournament, securing 15th place out of 24 teams in a week full of highs and lows. With windy weather and players affected by sickness, the girls did well to adapt to changes and keep their heads in the game throughout the week.

We came out of pool play with 1 win, 1 draw and 3 losses, resulting in us finishing 4th out of 6 in our pool. Our 1:0 win against Hamilton Christian School was a major highlight as it allowed us to stay in the middle 8 and compete in more even, challenging games. Another highlight was our 1:0 loss to Avondale, where the girls put up a solid fight against the large Auckland school who would go on to place 4th overall.

After a loss in our quarter and semi finals, we ended up battling it out for 15th place against Sacred Heart New Plymouth. After an intense fight, we were excited to end up with a 1:0 win which was a great way to end off the week! The girls should be super proud of their hard work and determination throughout the week.

The girls kept a positive attitude throughout the tournament, with bonding experiences both on and off the field. Games of Mafia and colds in 2°C water definitely made the experience that much more memorable. The week was a great time to give 2nd XI players, Izzy, Brooklyn, Chloe and Addison a taste of tournament life and an opportunity to step up and play against some tough teams.

Our week wouldn't have been the same without the support of our Coach, Manager and parent help, as well as our sideline supporters who made the effort to come and cheer us on. Thank you also to those who helped with sponsorship, especially Katifit Gym and Paul Burrows from Bower. It was great to have Paul and Bellamae cheering us on from the sideline!

WINTER TOURNAMENT CAPTAINS REPORT - Girls Hockey written by Vice Captain Aimii Morgan

The KKC Girls 1st XI showed incredible determination and teamwork throughout the week, pushing through challenging games and some seriously strong winds. Out of five games, the team secured three impressive wins and finished 6th out of 24 teams.

The girls started the tournament strongly on Monday, coming out firing with a 3–0 win. They carried that momentum into Tuesday, where they faced Rotorua Girls’ High School. With a place at the top of the table on the line, the team fought hard until the final whistle to secure another 3–0 victory.

These two wins saw KKC progress through to the quarter-finals, where they faced ACG Tauranga. It was a challenging game, made even more difficult by playing against friends. ACG took an early 4–0 lead in the first half, but KKC fought back strongly, winning the second half 1–0. Despite the final 4–1 loss, the girls showed plenty of resilience and determination.

The team then faced St Mary’s in the semi-finals. After a tough quarter-final, the girls bounced back brilliantly, putting in a strong performance to claim a 2–0 win and earn a place in the 5th–6th playoff.

The final day was challenging, with several players carrying niggles that unfortunately affected the team’s ability to perform at their full potential. Despite this, the girls gave everything they had in a tough and fast-paced game. It was also fantastic to see the Kindly’s come down to support the team.

Although the final result was a 6–0 loss, the score does not take away from the effort, determination and teamwork shown throughout the tournament. The KKC Girls 1st XI should be incredibly proud of their performance, finishing 6th out of 24 teams.
