What a truly incredible start to the year it has been at Natraj School of Dance ✨
From January through to now, our journey has been nothing short of vibrant, busy, and deeply fulfilling. We are immensely grateful and humbled that, once again, our school continues to be invited to perform at some of the most iconic and prestigious events across the region. It is a reflection of the trust our community places in us to represent the beauty, depth, and authenticity of Indian classical Bharatanatyam.
Over the past few months, our students have taken to the stage at numerous events, festivals, and special occasions—each performance filled with passion, discipline, and a deep respect for the art form. Through dance, they are not only mastering technique, but also immersing themselves in our culture, language, values, history, and storytelling traditions.
I am incredibly proud of every single student, and equally grateful to our parents, whose unwavering support, time, and commitment make this journey possible.

It has been so heartening to see our students grow in confidence, refine their craft, and continuously raise their own standards while also elevating the quality of our performances year on year.
Bharatanatyam is not a form that is mastered overnight. It takes years of patience, perseverance, discipline, and unwavering commitment. As a school that has sustained this journey for nearly 30 years, presenting high-quality performances whether for a small intimate audience or for crowds of 10,000–20,000 at major events like Diwali requires consistency, passion, and above all, blessings.
I remain forever grateful to my spiritual and dance gurus for their guidance and blessings that continue to inspire this journey.
Natraj School of Dance stands today as one of New Zealand’s premier Bharatanatyam institutions. We are deeply humbled by the continued support of our community and honoured to be invited to perform at so many significant events across the Wellington region. Our commitment has always been to preserve and promote this art form authentically, without ever losing sight of its rich traditions.

✨ Following the resounding success of our sold-out production Dasavatharam in 2023, Natraj School of Dance is proud to present a brand new thematic Indian classical Bharatanatyam production – SAPTA THANDAVAM"" ✨
This powerful and evocative production explores the seven divine tandavams of Lord Shiva, each expressing a unique cosmic energy — from creation and preservation to destruction and transformation. At its heart also lies the profound and beautiful concept of Ardhanareeswara — the perfect, inseparable union of Shiva and Shakthi, symbolising balance, harmony, and the essence of existence itself.
Without giving too much away, Sapta Tandavam promises a deeply immersive experience — one that weaves rhythm, expression, storytelling, and spirituality into a breathtaking visual and emotional journey.

It’s been a little while since I last posted not for lack of meaningful moments, but simply because life has been incredibly full and busy. There’s been so much happening behind the scenes, and not nearly enough time to share it all as often as I would have liked.
That said, I’m going to make a conscious effort to reflect on and share some of the special highlights from the past couple of months moments that truly deserve to be celebrated, even if a little delayed. And I’d love to begin with something very special.
On the 21st of March, one of our students, Sarayu Ganavarapu, performed her arangetram and what a beautiful, powerful, and deeply moving performance it was. Sarayu took to the stage with such confidence, grace, and poise, accompanied by a live orchestra that truly elevated the entire experience, adding a sense of divinity to the arangetram.
A special mention to the wonderful orchestra — Aiswarya, Gayathri, Avinash, Ikram, and Seyorn who were simply amazing and brought such depth and soul to the performance. Together, they created an atmosphere that touched everyone present. Many in the audience felt a deep emotional connection, and for her parents and close family, it was truly a goosebump-filled, unforgettable moment.
Sarayu is our 13th arangetram student, and she has made us immensely proud. Her journey especially over the past year has been one of dedication, resilience, and quiet determination. Building stamina, pushing through challenges, and staying mentally strong is no small feat, particularly for someone so young. But Sarayu showed incredible commitment every step of the way, and every bit of effort has paid off beautifully.
Well done, Sarayu — I am so very proud of you.
A special mention must also go to her sister, Saanvi, who is also my music student. Saanvi, along with Krithika, co-MC’d the event with such confidence and elegance. Both girls spoke so beautifully and carried the programme with great maturity and charm. Saanvi also presented a heartfelt musical tribute to her sister, which was incredibly touching and made me so proud.
Both Sarayu and Saanvi were simply outstanding and it’s clear that Dev and Radhika have every reason to be incredibly proud of their daughters.
Well done, girls. Keep shining with the same spirit, positivity, and grace. You are both truly beautiful souls.
