Randwick Rugby League Sports Club Inc We must first acknowledge the efforts of everyone who has been a part of the 90 year long journey.

Randwick Rugby League Club is the 2nd longest surviving club affiliated to Wellington Rugby League, and we can all stand tall and proud as we recognise this magnificent achievement - 2020 saw us celebrate our 90th birthday!! We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our foundation members who way back in 1930, saw the need to establish a 'new' rugby league club, from what can only be described as a very small beginnings based at Randwick School in Moera. Back then, Moera was a 'village' undergoing a huge transformation into a quickly established community built around the Railway Workshops. In one of New Zealand's truly last "working class" areas, the platform was set and with the suburb of Moera experiencing a rapid population growth, it also had to provide for the social and sporting needs of the day. Randwick School officially opened in October 1929 and become the first 'home' of Randwick Rugby League, before it set up base in the 'shack' at Strand Park, only to be lost in the fire of 1982. That forced a move to Naenae Park where we have been based ever since. Randwick Rugby League has been synonymous with producing many champion teams and players in that time, and we continue to uphold the values and principles that our forefathers set for us. To those of you that have served in any capacity within the Kingfisher family, you will know that the path to success must continue and we are duty bound to follow the course that has been charted for us

The club has been blessed with some of NZ's finest players, Jack Hemi, Ron Westerby, John Whittaker (1970-84), Kevin Tamati (83), Barry Edkins (83), Barry Harvey (87-89), Tony Kemp (87), Stephen Kearney (87), Denvour Johnson (93) all were Test Players, while George Lajpold (86-87) was a touring player. We are also pleased with our Women selected for Kiwi Ferns, Fuarosa Time (2005), Ana Pereira (2008-12), Ake Pereira (2010-2012), Bridget Smith (2010) Maryann Colllins (2010) and Geneva Webber (2012)

The Club is second only to Petone in the number of Wellington Premierships they have won 1944, 1946, 1947 (share with Marist), 1956, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1976, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1996, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014 & 2020. The Club has also appeared in National Club Knock-out Finals, unfortunatley all as runners up 1982 vs Petone, 1983 vs Otahuhu, 1984 vs Mt Albert, 1985 vs Manukau, 1986 vs Northcote

The Randwick Womens team have been crowned Wellington Champions in 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2016. This club has a very family orientated spirit which is perhaps why they have had success over the years. with the increase in interest of Rugby League from the mid 80's, the club has enjoyed a healthy Junior section which has seen the club always consistently one of the better performers locally

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Randwick Kingfisher Ivan George Kwocksun - affectionately known to many as China or Kwocky- on the 9th of October after a long illness. Ivan was a prolific player on the field and a true gentleman with the largest smile off the field.

Ivan had recently moved to
Australia to be closer to his family who bought him so much joy and will be farewelled in a service to celebrate his life on Monday 19th October. Our thoughts are with his extended family at this very sad time.

Ivan your work on Earth is complete and now it is time for you to rest easy in eternal peace.

Fly high Kingfisher- forever B2B…

In honour of the late Rangi Bell -

To all family and friends that are not able to make the service in Brisbane the Bell family have arranged live streaming of Rangi’s funeral service at the clubrooms this coming Wednesday 7th October 2026.

Rangi was a larger than life character both on and off the field during his time with the club. After moving to Brisbane he continued to keep his connections with his Randwick friends and became a key part of the Kingfisher Masters teams that travelled to Australia.

To Carol and the Whanau we send our deepest condolences at the loss of a much loved partner, Dad and Koro.

Rangi you always had the biggest smile and infectious laugh and your memory will live on in those who were
blessed to cross paths with you.

Rest easy Kingfisher….forever B2B

We are saddened to hear of the passing of former player Fuarosa “Foz” Time. Foz holds a special place in our club’s history as Randwick’s very first Kiwi Fern, and her path from local grassroots footy to the international stage remains a source of immense pride.

On her Kiwi Ferns debut at the 2003 Rugby League World Cup, she set a record by scoring six tries in a single match against Tokelau—a milestone that still stands today as the most tries scored in a women’s World Cup match and by a debutant. She also went on to represent Fetu Samoa at the 2008 World Cup before making the move across the ditch to Australia.

Through her achievements, Foz was one of many who lay the groundwork for women’s rugby league at Randwick and paved the way for many more to follow through.

Our love and thoughts are with the Time-Cribb whānau and friends during this sad time.
