Sailability Canterbury provides accessible sailing opportunities for people of all abilities

31/03/2026

Kia ora everyone,

As the weather begins to turn, the decision has been made to conclude our Sailability Canterbury season.

Reflecting on the season, we are so proud of everything our sailors achieved and so thankful for the volunteers who made it happen.

To everyone who supported us: thank you for being the wind in our sails!

We’re looking forward to a bit of maintenance before we kick things off again in the Spring. Until then, take care and stay warm! ⛵️

Ngā mihi,
The Sailability Canterbury Team

It was a grey, chilly start to the morning but it didn't stop 13 excited people join us on the water!

We had four of our boats out today which was nice to see.

We are working closely with the Christchurch City Council, Marine Tech Engineering LTD and International Hansa Class Association to have our hoist set up to assist people in and out of our boats and we had the pleasure of Kristine, CCC join us on the water to see how things work.

A big thank you to our volunteers for making our day run smoothly.

Looking forward to our next sailing day😃

🌊 What a perfect day for sailing! ⛵

Blue skies, a gentle start, and then a lovely breeze that put smiles on everyone’s faces.

It was great to have Recreate Christchurch and their volunteers out on the water, along with familiar faces from CCS Disability Action Ashburton, it's always great to see you all back for a sail. Some enjoyed having a go at sailing, while others relaxed and tried something new.

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers for giving their time and helping to ensure everyone had a fantastic experience. And thank you, Steve, for coming along—it’s great to have you joining our team.

We’d also like to extend a big thank you to Peter for his time and offer of help going forward, and Naval Point Club for the use of your RIB—it is very much appreciated.

Hi everyone, I hope you are all safe and not affected by the weather, it doesn't seem to be letting up in some places.

The forecast isn't looking good for tomorrow, so unfortunately, we will need to cancel our sailing day.

Check our calendar and we will see you next time ⛵️.

Our sailing last Friday was warm and had an excellent balance of calm and fun wind strengths, very enjoyable for all involved.

Hi everyone,

I hope you are keeping safe with the winds today.

With the forecast looking unpredictable and windy tomorrow, we’ve decided to cancel sailing for the day.

We’ll hope for better conditions next time and look forward to seeing you then!⛵️

⛵A beautiful start to the season, made even better by our sailors and volunteers.😃

We had a great first sailing day of the season — it was wonderful to see some of our sailors return from last season and welcomed new faces on board.

The spring breeze made for a beautiful (slightly chilly!) day on the water, and hearing a few “10 out of 10” ratings from our sailors was the best feedback we could ask for.

A big thank you to our fantastic volunteers who helped make the day such a success! ⛵
