🌟 🌟Calling all Older Athletes 🌟🌟

We would LOVE to see more older athletes joining our club, particularly within our 10+ age groups.

We can accommodate athletes from age 2 right through to 14 years old, and to encourage more older children to give athletics a go, we are introducing a “Refer a Friend” initiative for 10+ athletes this coming season (Oct 20 2026 - Late March 2027)

🌟🌟Refer a friend and both athletes (10+) will receive $5 off their registration🌟🌟

Athletics is a fantastic foundation for almost every sport. It develops speed, strength, coordination, agility and endurance, while also providing a positive environment for children to make new friends, build confidence and challenge themselves.

Thinking about joining a club? Come and check us out at our “Have a go night” FREE EVENT, NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED - Tuesday 20th October 2026 from 6:10pm at the Matamata Domain behind MPS.

We have some exciting new additions to our programme this season and can’t wait to welcome you all back for another great season of athletics!

📅 TERM 1 2027 REGISTRATION

We’ll be reopening registrations for Term 1 2027! We know activities overlap and plans change, particularly for our Mini Club families, so we want to give families another opportunity to join us.

Family discounts apply for 3+ children, and payment plans are available.

🌟 CALLING OUR OLDER ATHLETES!

We’d love to see more athletes aged 10–14 joining us! To encourage our older age groups, we’re introducing “Refer a Friend” for 10+ athletes, refer a friend and both athletes aged 10+ will receive $5 off registration!

Athletics is a fantastic foundation for almost every sport, developing speed, strength, coordination, agility and endurance while building confidence and friendships.

🏆 CLUB CHAMPIONS ARE BACK!

We’re excited to bring back Club Champions for our 6+ athletes!

Term 4 2026 will focus on skill development, training and coaching across:

⬆️ High jump
⬆️ Long jump

We’ll also recognise attendance, sportsmanship and mana throughout the season.

Term 1 2027 = Championship time! 🏆

Official measurements will be recorded for throws and jumps, and races will be timed. At the end-of-season prize giving, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals will be awarded in each age group based on overall performances.

We’re incredibly excited about what’s ahead and the opportunities we can provide for our tamariki.

A huge thank you to our athletes, families, volunteers, student Leaders, coaches, sponsors and committee members for continuing to support our club.

We can’t wait to see everyone back on the field giving things a go, building confidence and, most importantly, having fun!

Our Club & Athletics NZ

As many of you know, Matamata Athletic Club is now a non-affiliated with Athletics NZ. As a club, this decision was made in the best interests of our members financially.

This does not mean we are stepping away from maintaining high standards. This year, Ethan Wallace, alongside other committee members, will complete development courses with the support of Athletics NZ. This will ensure that our coaching, techniques and approach within the club continue to align with current New Zealand standards.

Our goal is to build a sustainable club financially so that, when the time is right, we can become affiliated with Athletics NZ again. We also want to grow our numbers and create opportunities for our talented young athletes to represent Matamata and put our community on the map in the future.

How does this affect your tamariki?

Being affiliated with Athletics NZ gives clubs the ability to compete against athletes from affiliated clubs across the country at competitive events, including the Colgate Games.

As a non-affiliated club, Matamata Athletic Club is not able to enter athletes directly into these Athletics NZ competitions.

But there is still an option!

If your tamariki would like to compete at Athletics NZ events, they can register with an affiliated club, train with us here at Matamata Athletic Club, and compete for their affiliated club at those events.

This means your tamariki can still enjoy our local club environment, training and events, while having the option to compete at Athletics NZ competitions through an affiliated club.

Athletics NZ is also keen to support non-affiliated clubs and work alongside us to help ensure clubs like ours can continue to provide great opportunities for tamariki in our communities.

We believe this gives families choice and flexibility, while allowing us to continue building a fun, affordable and community-focused athletics club here in Matamata.

Looking for something to be a part of?

Come along to Markos Osteria tonight at 6pm and see what our club has to offer!

We have several committee positions that need to be filled and welcome all enthusiastic parents who want to make a positive difference for our community tamariki.

Help us keep athletics alive, fun, and accessible for local children. Matamata Athletic Club provides a low-cost extracurricular activity where children can build confidence, develop social skills, stay active, and grow as individuals from 2-14 years old.

Whether you can contribute a little or a lot, we’d love to see you there and hear your ideas for the future of our club.

See you there!

WE WANT YOU!
Come along to our AGM and see what we are all about!

📅 Wednesday 3rd June
📍Markos Osteria
⏰ 6:00pm
EVERYONE WELCOME!

Matamata Athletic Club has a number of exciting opportunities available within our committee and group leads for the upcoming 2026/2027 season.

⭐ Treasurer Role Available

Our committee is seeking a new Treasurer for the upcoming season (October–March) and hopefully beyond, as our lovely Maree Hill steps down after many years of hard mahi and dedication to the club.

We are looking for someone who is financially literate, preferably with previous treasurer experience or transferable skills from their current employment.

This role includes:
• Managing club finances
• Creating seasonal budgets
• Preparing financial reports
• Tracking fee payments
• Paying invoices and employed students
• Supporting the committee with financial planning

Maree will provide a thorough handover, so you’ll be well supported stepping into the role. As Treasurer is an executive position, this role also includes joining the committee.

This role may suit someone already involved in the club with the right skill set and some spare time to volunteer — perhaps a stay-at-home parent, grandparent, or community member wanting to support our young athletes.

⭐ Committee Members Wanted

We are also looking for new committee members!

Our current committee are the friendly faces you already see helping around the club — running age groups, assisting college leads, helping with set up and pack down, and making club nights fun for everyone.

Do you have fresh ideas you’d love to bring to the club? Do you want an active role within the club? We’d love to hear them! Teamwork makes the dream work, and we encourage active parents and whanau members with a passion for athletics to get involved.

⭐ 2–3 Year Old Age Group Lead

We are also seeking a lead for our 2–3 year old age group. You do not need to be a committee member for this role.

The parent lead will assist college students in ensuring the evening runs smoothly. This can be a simple oversight role or a more hands-on position depending on your preference.

Duties include:
• Creating a simple session plan
• Setting up activities/events
• Helping with pack down

If available, I’ll also be there to help with set up. This role would ideally suit a parent (or parents) who had a 2-year-old in the 2025/2026 season and already know the ropes. A daytime skills session can also be provided if needed to help build confidence. This role could also be shared between a couple of families to help spread the load.

If you’re interested in any of these roles and aren’t able to attend our AGM, please reach out via Facebook message, email us at [email protected], if available please come along to our AGM to meet the team and find out more.

We look forward to meeting you soon and welcoming some new faces to help keep our club thriving! 💛🖤

An amazing end to our season tonight!

A big thank you to all of our athletes and whānau who attended prize giving to wrap up the season. What a fantastic season it’s been, with our new approach, incorporating student leaders and more structured events for our senior group.

Firstly, we would like to acknowledge and thank our incredible sponsors - Jobes, Matamata Timber & Hardware, Mitre 10, Life Pharmacy, The Warehouse Matamata, Daltons, Birds Bobcat Ltd, and Wilson & Sands. Your support plays a huge role in making our season possible, and we are very grateful.

A big thank you also to our committee for the time, effort, and energy you have all put in behind the scenes throughout the season.

We would also like to acknowledge our student leaders, Holly and Jamie, for generously volunteering their time this season. Your support and commitment have made a real difference, and we truly appreciate your community spirit.

To our newest addition to the team and committee, Ethan Wallace - your work with the 8–11 year olds has been outstanding. The improvement in both field and track technique has been amazing to watch week by week. Our club is very lucky to have you.

And finally, thank you to our employed student leaders — Choville & Charlotte, Zy & Lilly, Regan & Tenley, Laura & Shania, and Madi & Evelyn. Because of you, we’ve been able to run our season a little differently this year — creating an environment where parents could step back and simply enjoy watching their children participate and grow. Thank you!

Thank you all for being part of such a fantastic season. We’ll be back again in October and look forward to seeing all our athletes return for the 2026/2027 season. Keep an eye out for updates in September!
