Methven Football Club

Congratulations 15th Grade!

Four years of football, friendships and growing together as a team. Many of these players have been alongside each other throughout the journey, with some playing together even before these four years began.

This season saw the team take another big step, moving up to Division Two and taking on a new challenge together.

Looking back through these photos shows just how much has changed over the years players have come and gone, but many familiar faces have remained. From where they started to where they are today, it’s been a pretty special journey to look back on.

14th Grade - 2026 Cup Winners! 🏆

14s win the final away against Ferrymead

1-1 at the end of normal time and 3-4 on penalties to get the win

4th time we have played Ferrymead and they have been a tricky team for us to get a win despite the performances

Today was a great game, the players from both teams were pumped and ready for the final

1st half was an even game with Methven edging the possession and chances but not by much and 0-0 at halftime

2nd half Methven seemed to sense they had the beating of the opposition and went out with a bang and completely dominated the first 15 minutes of the half with ferrymead firmly stuck back, a string of 5 corners in a row and several shots saved quite brilliantly by the Ferrymead goalkeeper and last ditch defending kept it 0-0

Ferrymead came back into the game and started breaking out and completely against the run of play managed to get a goal with about 10 minutes remaining

Heads could have dropped but Methven went back on the attack and again had several close chances denied but with about 2 minutes left Jacko found the back of the net to level it up and off we went to penalties

4 Methven players scored and 1 was denied by the goalkeeper

Ferrymead put one over the bar and then Freddie saved their next leaving Jacko to step up and slot away the winner 🏆

No POD as amazing performances everywhere today

A deserved end to the season for this team 2nd in the division and Cup champions for their first season is brilliant but they have played so well and a real team with teamwork unpinning it all 🙌

14s win 8-2 at home against Hornby

Great performance from Methven really great link up play and passing quickly and sharply and we raced into a 5-0 lead after 25 minutes and the same at halftime

Lots of changes made for the 2nd half to keep the game competitive Freddie our goal keeper having a half at centre midfield and other players moved into different positions

These changes worked well and the game opened up but Methven still comfortably in charge of the game and it finished 8-2 with 5 different players scoring

POD Isaac

Plays left wing and always does a good job, links play well and gets the ball in the box and creates chances, but today just was always involved and got 3 assists today and just look dangerous every time he got on the ball, Great work Isaac 🙌

We needed a win to secure 2nd in the division 🙌

Something we are all proud of as a first year team, we have 4 players that have switched from rugby playing their first season and 8 players making the step up from local 9 a side and 2 more players new to the team

This season was really about figuring out how to play and get to know each other so to finish 2nd is a great achievement 🙌

The players take all the credit, teamwork has been the driving factor and what’s proven to be a great platform for us to push forward and keep developing

Methven 14s loose 3-2 away at Selwyn

2 fairly evenly matched teams made for another good game to watch with chances plentiful at both ends

Methven definitely deserved to win the game, had more possession and more chances throughout the game and kept pressure on and kept the ball in the opposition half more of the time

Selwyn were very strong and good down the wings and caused us problems early in the game and scored 2 goals early on and we struggled to get going and find any rhythm but after 15 minutes the defence managed to organise themselves better and covered each other more and well and shut down Selwyn’s main method of attack and we came into the game more and started to play better and with more confidence and it was 3-1 at half time

2nd half was even more in methvens control and we got a goal back to make it 3-2 but despite numerous efforts and attacks another goal wouldn’t come unfortunately with Selwyn’s defence and goalkeeper making multiple tackles and saves to keep them in front and it’s finished 3-2

A great team display again this week with the defence really working together well as a unit which was good to see

POD Joseph

Another first season player after switching, plays at left and right back, is fearless with his approach and makes so many tackles and wins the ball back, incredibly fast and uses it well to cover his team mates and gets us out of trouble and clears the dangers away, consistently performs well, great display again today

14s draw at home 1-1 against Ferrymead

A great game of football to watch with scores and chances remaining tight throughout the game

A win for Methven would have been a fairer result on the day but that’s not always how it goes unfortunately with Methven creating more chances than the opposition

1-0 after 6 minutes and 1-0 is always a nervous place to be but unfortunately another goal just wouldn’t happen despite numerous efforts and 1-0 at half time

Ferrymead kept going and attacked every time they had the opportunity and defence did a awesome job but ferrymead managed to get a goal on a break away with 7 minutes left and it finished 1-1

14s still have a shot at winning the division with a top of the table clash against Selwyn next week but needing a win after today’s draw, with chch boys also in the mix it’s going to come down to the last game it seems

POD Oskar

Oskars first season playing football after switching from rugby and he’s growing every game, plays mostly at centre back but also covers at right or left back, has great energy, makes so many covering runs to clean up in defence and tackles well and with 100% commitment and effort and plays the ball nicely forward to teammates to get attacks going again,
Brilliant again today, well done Oskar 😎🙌

It has the black adult kit in it with the Blue pub logo on the front.
Just in case someone has it by mistake, taken at the end of the friendly game last season, or has taken by mistake please return or call OJ.

Our 2nd to last weekend of football, and another great time had by all!

The Methven Keas had an outstanding game - too tricky to pick one Player of the Day - it was taken out by the whole team!

This team played phenomenally today it was impossible to choose 1! Every single player played to the best of their ability; a great game to watch & ref with a heap of goals scored. We celebrated Jetts first goal, a stellar performance from Eric, impeccable sportsmanship from Huxley, High speed goals from Kyben, and great focus by Eddie.
Isaac's last game which he gave his everything to. And Neeva never taking her eye off the ball!

Such a strong, skilled and enthusiastic team at peak performance, its a shame we only have 1 game left 🥰

Methven 14s win away 4-5 against Christs College

On a cold wet morning the game started at a frantic pace with the scores being 2-2 after 10 minutes

Methven scored after 4 minutes and were unlucky to concede to a very soft penalty given by the ref which definitely made them loose their momentum and focus for 5 minutes and they conceded another but that snapped them back into action and equalised

The rest of the first half was even game with Christs college getting another through an own goal deflected in from a corner so 3-2 at half time

2nd half much more Methven’s game and scored 2 more in the first 10 minutes

Christs College were strong down the wings and always looked to get forward and the defence has something to do all game and did it well but it was always Methven looking more threatening and in control another goal each finished the game at 4-5 with 4 goals for Jacko and 1 for Oli

POD Holly

Great performance today, came close to getting a goal on many occasions and got into great positions but really high energy performance pressed and hassled the defence and midfield players and areas really well and carried the ball forward creating some great link up play 🙌👏
