Bayleys New Zealand Putting Open — Part 1 ⛳️

On Sunday, Kahu and Phil Tataurangi took on the Mount Maunganui putting green alongside Andrew Towers, Head of Golf Operations at Mount Maunganui Golf Club.

The green was designed by Phil, so it was time to see if the designer could putt his money where his mouth is… 👀

A bit of friendly competition, plenty of banter, and some serious putting pressure.

Windross Farm was built so that doesn’t happen — a golf course made for the everyday golfer, not just scratch players chasing a punishing test. Wide fairways, room to breathe, and a clubhouse jug at the end of it either way.

A year after Windross Farm opened, Lydia Bogyung Ko and the LPGA Tour rolled into Clevedon for the 2017 New Zealand Women’s Open.

Ever wondered why so many NZ golf courses have random pine forests jammed through them? 🌲

Turns out, it wasn’t landscaping… it was a get-rich-quick scheme from 30–50 years ago.

Plant a few thousand pines. Wait 25–30 years. Sell the logs. Pocket the profit. 💰

Except when harvest time came around, forestry prices had tanked — and at Waikanae Beach, they couldn’t even get the logs out because the bridges over the stream weren’t rated for logging trucks. 😂

Waikanae Beach had a 9th hole that never played right — balls flying out of bounds for years. Their fix wasn’t a redesign, it was selling a slice of the course to the retirement village going in right next door. Two master plans, one win-win, and the proceeds are funding a full rebuild of the hole. 🏡⛳ Full breakdown on the pod, link in bio.

⛳️ Waikanae Golf Club has a pretty special connection to Paraparaumu.

Paraparaumu is regarded as the crown jewel of the Kāpiti Coast — but did you know Waikanae Golf Club’s original routing was laid out by Paraparaumu’s own former greenkeeper and head professional?

Formed in the late ’60s/early ’70s, the course has some serious pedigree behind its original design.
And with so many of the green and tee sites sitting naturally among the dunes, there’s plenty of landscape worth uncovering. 👀
