Weighed in this morning, Hawkes Bay Sports Fishing Club junior, Mikah Robinson with a 8.81kg snapper landed onboard Aquaholic in the Ahuriri Marine Services grid area.

Sea was flat, no wind and the sun was shining - a far cry from yesterday’s wild weather.

Before yesterday’s Hodson Crane Hire Opening Day Prize Giving, we presented Glenn Bond with the Pursuit Trevally Team Trophy and the Interclub Trevally Champions trophy.

He won these two trophies onboard Great Expectations in the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council Inc Nationals in February (They didn’t arrive in time for our Hawkes Bay Sports Fishing Club Annual Prizegiving in September).

We would like to welcome Drinkrow Homes - Hawkes Bay to our Hawkes Bay Sports Fishing Club grid map for the 2026/27 year.
They picked a spot right smack in the middle of the Bay. I’m sure Jesse, a keen fisherman knows where everyone will be wetting their line.

From their website - “New builds, renovations and extensions — crafted with care, clarity and genuine Hawke’s Bay expertise.

Create a home that feels right for you and your family.

We build quality new homes, complete thoughtful renovations and create extensions that make everyday living easier — all with clear communication and a process that feels well supported from start to finish”.

Cheers team

Not that long until the 50th anniversary of our legendary Gamefishing tournament.

Nowadays, it’s the MegaFish Hawkes Bay but, some of you may remember it as the Coruba Shark Hunt (the last of those were 13 years ago). Times may have changed but, we have always held it around Waitangi weekend and the Early Bird entries always open around this time of the year.

Now is the time to start talking to your crew mates about who’s onboard, tactics, target species and a great week of fishing.

Elite Welding Services Ltd Early Bird entries go on sale very soon. Go to the MegaFish Hawkes Bay page and you’ll keep up to date with everything when it’s happening.
