JUNIOR SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CLINIC/CAMP No.14: THURSDAY 8TH OCTOBER:
The next SVC holiday skills clinic/camp for Years 6-9 students will be held at the TSB Stadium on Thursday 8th October.
If you are passionate about Volleyball, want to have fun while working on learning new and elevating existing skills, build a solid foundation for your game and make new friends on the day- this skills clinic/camp is just right for you.
Participants will have the opportunity to be coached by experienced players and senior coaches.
The day will be fun and interactive.
Use the clinic/camp to improve your skills and prepare for your volleyball action before the Taranaki Year 7 and 8 championships the first week in Term 4 (Wednesday 14th October).

PROGRESS ON THE NEW SPORTS HUB:
The steel framework is starting to be eretced at the new sports Hub beside the TSB Stadium.
Hopefully, the venue will open in Term 2, 2028.
There will be 12 International Volleyball courts available.

MENINGOCOCAL WARNING--GET VACCINATED:
Volleyball Taranaki is deeply saddened by the recent passing of a valued member of the Waikato volleyball community Kyla Te Wano Greensill due to meningococcal disease.
To know Kyla was to be loved by Kyla. She had a warm and adventurous heart and loved her family, her people, travel and volleyball.
She represented New Zealand, Aotearoa Māori Poirewa and Waikato across indoor, club and beach volleyball, while also giving so much back to the Waikato volleyball community through coaching, volunteering, playing and supporting those around her.
Kyla made her Volley Ferns debut in the 2024 Trans-Tasman Test Series before once again wearing the fern at the 2025 AVC Nations Cup in Hanoi.
Our thoughts are with the whānau, friends, teammates, the Waikato Volleyball Community and everyone who is grieving this loss.

People are being urged to get vaccinated against meningococcal disease following the death.
Meningococcal disease can cause an infection around the brain and blood poisoning.

Health NZ Waikato medical officer of Health Dr Kate Meerkerk said it was more common in children, teenagers and young adults.
She confirmed the latest death was a young adult in the region.
“Our thoughts are with the person’s whānau and loved ones during this difficult time.”

She said the meningococcal B vaccine was free for babies and children under 5 years old.
It was also free for those between the age of 13 and 25 in their first year of certain close-living situations - such as boarding school hostels, halls of residence, military barracks, youth justice facilities and prisons.

“It is important that people know the symptoms and seek medical attention early if they are concerned,” said Meerkerk.

Symptoms can include fever, headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to light and confusion. The first symptoms of meningococcal disease may seem like the flu or a cold, but the symptoms will usually get worse quickly, with some people suddenly becoming very unwell, sometimes in just a few hours.
