Oko’s Place Oko’s Place offers anyone interested in horses the chance to learn about them in a safe and empathetic way.

We offer riding, groundwork lessons and pre-school pony play time. Oko's place doesn't use bits, whips, spurs or hard kicks as teaching tools.

⭐️ SCHOOL HOLIDAYS ⭐️

Im afraid that we will be closed from 27th September- 2nd October.

However If any of our riders are interested in coming out for a day or three during the second week of the holidays we could make this a possibility.

We can host 2 children per day.

It would be a lot of hands on horse care, maybe baking some horse (and human) treats, learning about keeping gear in good condition and probably a lesson in the arena in the morning and a ride down the road in the afternoon.

I’m thinking 9-4, Byo lunch and snacks & $75 for the day.

Im so happy to report that Chase and Honey have gone to a brilliant home. They sent me a pic yesterday of Chase carrying his new wee girl off the lead in-front of the mum and her baby in the stroller out on a hack. Shes a good rider and has a show pony and they wanted something for fun like hacking and jumping. He’s intended to become a true family member and will be kept for all of the children. The youngest is 4 months old so he probably has a home for life ❤️ Honey is his wee side kick on this new adventure.

** Space Filled** Due to sickness with our regular rider. We have 1 Pony Play Time space for this Saturday at 1pm available if anyone wants it? $15 for the hour sharing with another wee 3 year old and their family. It’s a fun and educational time - not your standard pony ride 😊

We just had 2 lovely families who joined us from New Brighton for Pony Play Time for 3 weeks in a row as a homeschooling activity.

Week 1 : we concentrated on grooming and had a short ride in the arena on the lead,

Week 2 : we groomed and went for a hack off the property on the lead.

Week 3 : We groomed and the girls learnt the first steps of riding off the lead.

In total, this experience costed each family $45 plus petrol 👌 Pony Play Time is designed to be a fun one off but when you come regularly it also acts as riding lessons - it’s a slower education than the Horse Skills classes but an education nonetheless ❤️

In Late June we were privileged to be joined by a lovely group from Bloomfield court Retirement home. They came up in their van and spent a while patting and brushing the horses and then sat down for their packed lunch. It was a gorgeous experience had by all and one we would love to offer to the wider public.

If you are connected to a group of people who would benefit from some time with friendly and curious horses from September 1 we will be offering group visits.

The review spot doesnt let me leave the review that Oko's place deserves! We love our toddlers play time sessions. They have been amazing with Fynn getting confidence around horses and ponies. Fynn is a very busy toddler with limited attention and he asks now he asks if he has pony play times because he enjoys it. The ethics of Oko's Place is what we love. all the animals on the property are not just animals to them they are part of their family. They are patient and teach him things that are at his ability / attention span.
