WISPA, supported by funding from the Global Sport Mentoring programme, is surveying mothers working in the sport sector across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Your story matters. Your insights will help us understand the real experiences, challenges, opportunities and support needs of working mothers, and show organisations, leaders and the wider sport industry how to build more inclusive, supportive and equitable workplaces.

Our new Life Members Andrea and Clare with Club Patron and Life Member Fay Chapman 💛

Life Membership — Andrea Cullen

Andrea Cullen joined Shore Rovers in 1991, and 35 years later, she part of the heart of our club.

Andrea has played for Team Gold, Team VIOXX, the Maidens and Team White, coached Team 11 and managed more teams than we could list. Even a serious back injury didn’t stop her turning up at the courts, hoping she might get a little time on court.

Shore Rovers became a family story. Andrea’s daughters, Jessica and Holly, grew up with her on the sideline at games where she was busy playing, coaching or managing another team. When they were ready for club netball, there was apparently no question where they would play.

For at least five seasons, Andrea has said, “Next year will be my last year.” Thankfully for us, she keeps coming back: for the game, the people and the place she has at Rovers.

Life Membership recognises the loyalty, resilience and generosity Andrea has shown across more than three decades.

Andrea, thank you for making Shore Rovers a part of your life and for being such a treasured part of ours.

Life Membership — Clare Seed

Clare joined Shore Rovers in 1996 and has been a proud member for 30 seasons.

From Team Yellow to the Golden Girls, Leisurites, Gold, White and the Maidens, she has been one of our quiet achievers: loyal, reliable and always there for her teammates.

Her longtime teammate Rebecca Walton says a chance team placement many years ago became a lifelong friendship.

Through tournament trips, wins, losses and everything life has thrown their way, Clare has been a constant for her team.

Her reassuring words? “Don’t worry about it.”

Clare says each season might be her last, but her teammates know better! Even an Achilles injury couldn’t keep her away for good.

Clare, thank you for the years you’ve given to Shore Rovers and for the friendships you’ve helped build along the way.

Life Membership is more than what you give to the club, it’s about what you give to those around you as well. Being a solid supporter of people is what we cherish around here.

🏆 The Cameron Trophy for Service to Netball 🏆

Andrea Cullen

The Cameron Trophy for Service to Netball regonises someone who gives their time and energy to make netball happen for others.

Andrea has been doing exactly that for around 35 years.

This season, she managed both Team 8 and Team 11. Over the years, she has coached, managed, scored, played, filled in and taken on whatever job needed doing.

As Andrea puts it, “Just give me a job.”

And we know we can count on her to get it done.

Thank you Andrea, for the hours you give and the care you bring to every team you support. A very deserving recipient!

🏆 Coach of the Year 🏆

Natalia Abbott

Natalia is the kind of coach who gives absolutely everything to her players. Her commitment is extraordinary, she has even changed flights to ensure she could be there for a game and this prize giving, and despite working incredibly demanding hours, she stepped up to coach not one, but two teams this season.

Natalia brought new skills, ideas and challenges to training every week, providing honest and constructive feedback while ensuring every player felt included and had the opportunity to succeed.

Her belief in her players helped Team 4 reach Premier 2 and finish third, an achievement many of them never imagined possible at the beginning of the season.

She also put her hand up to coach Team 8 and guided them through to finish third in their grade.

Natalia’s impact goes far beyond results.

The positive culture Natalia has created allows her players to rise above distractions, embrace the joy of the game and truly believe in themselves and one another.

She has helped them grow not only as netballers, but as people.

For her incredible dedication, selflessness and ability to bring out the very best in everyone around her, our Coach of the Year is Natalia Abbott.

🏆 Team of the Year 🏆

SR18 Development 3

Development 3 is a young team of ten committed players, most of whom were experiencing senior club netball for the first time this season.

Despite the demands of school, training and competing in the adult arena, they turned up every week with an amazing attitude and a genuine desire to learn.

The girls quickly gelled, developing wonderful friendships and a strong sense of team spirit that was reflected in the way they played.

Their teamwork, commitment and determination saw them reach the Senior 7 final, beating a team that had dropped down from Senior 6 to secure their place, and then go on to win their grade in their very first season!

They also won the Netball North Harbour Defensive Points Trophy for 40 min games which is huge!

Their contribution extended well beyond their own team. They stepped up time and time again to fill in for other Shore Rovers teams, always willing to help and never looking out of place on court.

Their coach describes them as an absolute pleasure to work with, and their growth in confidence, skill and maturity has been incredible to watch.

From a group of young players new to club netball to Senior 7 champions, Team 18 has shown exactly what can be achieved through commitment, friendship, hard work and playing for one another.

We are so excited to see where their netball journey takes them.

🏆 The Utting Family Trophy for Social Team of the Year 🏆

Team 6 Gold

This years winner were the only Shore Rovers social team to win their grade.

This team, led by the fabulous Rachel Foster, has an experienced line-up that shows how great a calm level-headed team can do, especially in the pouring rain after being inside for round one.

They were also lucky to have a consistently energetic sideline for all of their games, particularly the final.

This team has great committee representation, our Secretary (Rachel), Treasurer (Steph), Manager Liaison & Stats guru (Saskia), with our amazing photographer (Georgia) alongside wonderful new players and long term members giving back to the club.
