This is the most incredible, deep, scent // Lately I’ve returned to an anchoring ritual multiple times a day in our home, but I didn’t realise the power of Sandalwood in ritual.

I usually like blends of scents and oils, but this one holy ingredient sure is special. Fragrance and scent have such powerful ways of taking us places, and this Sandalwood has something pretty special hidden within.

These hand rolled inscence sticks from Michelle Allen are made in India from the finest Sandalwood.

Sandalwood has been used in religious ceremonies and traditional medicine since the pre-Christian era, and is still in high demand for (mostly) the same reasons today.
In Buddhism, sandalwood incense is burnt during prayer and meditation, revered for its ability to calm and focus the mind.
Ancient Egyptians imported the wood for use in medicine, embalming and burial and for ritual burning to please the gods.
In Ayurveda, Chinese and Tibetan medical systems, sandalwood oil has been used to treat a variety of health conditions from the common cold and fever to liver and gallbladder issues. Sandalwood is also used in aromatherapy to aid relaxation and sleep.

Regardless of ‘religion’ or ‘faith’. The sacredness of ceremony it’s part of being human. We find rituals in acts whether we label them a ritual or not. We take part in ceremonies during many times in our life, they may not always contain candles or incense or a dress or a deity. We may not always hold hands. We may not always bow our heads. We may not even open our mouths to speak or close our eyes. We create rituals because we’re human.

Life = ceremony.
Ceremony = life.
