🏑 AIMS GAMES | CONGRATULATIONS

A huge congratulations to all the schools and teams who competed at AIMS Games this week!

It was fantastic to see plenty of Manawatu teams represented in Tauranga and competing against some of the best intermediate school teams from around the country.

A special congratulations to HMI U16 National Coach Georgia Gore and her PNINS team, who finished an outstanding 2nd place in the Mixed 7-a-side competition. After a fantastic week, they narrowly missed out in the final, going down 2–1.

Congratulations also to Feilding Intermediate, who finished an impressive 8th place, making the Top 8 at AIMS Games.

🏑 Jennian Homes U11 HOCKEY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME REMINDER

REGISTRATIONS CLOSE 20th of September

We’re excited to announce that registrations are now OPEN for our 2026 U11 Hockey Development Programme!

This 5-week programme is designed to give young players a fun, supportive environment where they can learn, play and develop their hockey skills while building confidence and a love for the game. 💚

Across the programme, players will work on their core hockey skills through fun and engaging sessions, while learning more about the game and developing their ability to play as part of a team.

Whether your child is new to hockey or has been playing for a few years, the programme is a great opportunity to continue developing their skills in a positive environment.

The Festival Day will give players the chance to put everything they've been working on into practice, with a fun day of hockey to celebrate the end of the programme.

🏑 UMPIRE RECOGNITION | NATIONAL SECONDARY SCHOOLS TOURNAMENTS

Just as we celebrated the achievements of our Manawatu teams following National Secondary Schools Tournament Week, we also want to recognise the incredible work of our officials who represented Manawatu throughout the week.

🏆 Founders Cup

A massive thank you to Karla Hughes and Sam Buinimasi for their work at the Founders Cup, hosted here in Manawatu.

Karla took on the role of Tournament Director, doing an outstanding job of ensuring the tournament ran smoothly throughout the week.

Sam was our Umpire Manager, providing support to the umpire group and completing appointments for the following day's play.

The tournament would not have been as successful without the time, effort and expertise you both put in. Thank you! 👏

🏑 Nationally Appointed Officials

A huge congratulations to Selby Jowsey, Finn Caske and Luke Baird, who were all appointed to Rankin Cup, the top-tier National Secondary School Boys Tournament.

Being appointed to Rankin Cup is an outstanding achievement and is a fantastic recognition of the hard work and development of all three officials. Congratulations!

We also want to acknowledge all of our local umpires who supported the Founders Cup and other National Secondary School Tournaments around New Zealand.

Thank you for your commitment and hard work throughout the week. Without the dedication of umpires and officials, these tournaments simply could not happen.

🏑 CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SECONDARY MANAWATU TEAMS!

Hockey Manawatu would like to congratulate all of the teams who recently competed in their respective winter tournaments around New Zealand. It has been fantastic to see so many of our local schools representing the Manawatu with pride!

A special mention must go to PNBHS 1st XI, FAHS Boys 1st XI, PNGHS 1st XI and WCS 1st XI Girls, who have all been competing in the top tier of Secondary School Hockey.

Not only did these teams compete against the best schools in the country, they performed incredibly well, with all four teams finishing inside the top 13 teams in New Zealand! 🇳🇿👏

That is an unbelievable achievement and a real testament to the strength of the Manawatu Secondary School Hockey Competition.

We would also like to give a special congratulations to St Peter's College, who were crowned Tier 4 Girls Eveline Hankers Tournament Champions, winning their final 1–0! 🏆 What an awesome achievement for the team and everyone involved.

Congratulations again to all of our Manawatu teams and players. You have done your schools, supporters and our hockey community incredibly proud! 💚🏑

🏑 CLUB CHAMPIONS 2026 🏆

Congratulations to all of our 2026 Club Champions! What an incredible Finals Day, with some extremely tight contests and over half of the finals going to shootouts.

It was awesome to see so much support around the turf as teams battled it out for their respective titles.

HSHC v College

Coming into the final, the two sides had already faced each other three times throughout the season, with every match finishing 2–1, with both sides picking up wins.

College got off to a flying start, scoring early in the first quarter and taking a 1–0 lead into halftime. HSHC came out fighting in the second half, finding the equaliser in the third quarter to level the scores heading into the final quarter.

With everything still to play for, HSHC struck early in the fourth quarter from a penalty corner to take the lead and secure a 2–1 victory.

Remarkably, all four encounters between the teams this season finished 2–1, with both teams winning two matches each.

College v HSHC

Another huge HSHC v College clash saw the two teams meet for the fifth time this season, with both sides having won two games each heading into the final.

College got off to the perfect start, scoring twice in the first quarter and taking a 2–0 lead into halftime. They extended their advantage in the third quarter before HSHC fought back with a goal of their own.

With College leading 3–1 and six minutes remaining, HSHC removed their goalkeeper and threw everything forward. The game opened up, with College capitalising to put the result beyond doubt. Despite a late goal from HSHC, College came away with a 5–2 victory.

The win sees College claim the trophy for the third year in a row! 🏆
