As summer approaches, you may have a little one starting swim classes or considering them. This article will help you understand that early lessons focus on creating a sense of safety, building relationships, and establishing trust first. Once these foundations are in place, your child can begin the process of desensitization and learning to feel comfortable underwater. Our qualified and friendly teaching team will guide your little one through this process.

Its water safety presentation season-
Kapiti learn to swim is out and about in the community each week again. And this week was the amazing Wonder kids on Arawahta Road. What a treat. We read stories, tried on life jackets and had a great boogie to finish.

This free program is now in its 9th year-

Here is Jenson, one of our Kapiti learn to swim superstars. Jenson is now 8 years old, he started with us at 3.5 years as a non - verbal delayed (and enthusiastic ) Seahorse

At 5 years he joined private classes for 18mths, then with a lot of discussion with his family we felt his needs would be better met back in group classes. And how right we all were.

Swimming is a structured, repetitive physical activity where each skill is scaffolded carefully one after each other.

As Jenson has autism and global developmental delays his brain has been able to sequentially arrange all the body and brain patterning to order beautifully allowing him to master 4 levels over the past 2 years.

Every swimmer learns in their very own way and here at Kapiti learn to swim we take the time to ensure each individually is seen, heard and have their needs met in whatever way we possibly can.

Jenson has had so many amazing teachers over his time, Evie, Mandi, Kimra, Sam, Michaela, Kimra ,Louisa, Stacey and myself- and actually we are the lucky ones!

We look forward to watching you keep growing, defying all odds and never stop reaching for the stars Jenson. We are so proud of you.

Term 4 has begun - 10 weeks ahead of investing life saving skills into our community

Jacqui and Leanne are teaching preschool tomorrow and by chance we have a 925am Seahorse and 925am Tadpole class with space to offer a free trial lesson.

If you have a little one aged 3 and a half and above and have been thinking about lessons then this is your chance. Especially if your little one is sensitive to water on their face. Seahorse is the class for you.
