Action packed weekend at the South Island Golden Gloves for us. Highs, lows, and everything inbetween. Well done to everyone that made the weekend what it was! A mixed bag in terms of titles, but across the board a great weekend for the club. Far too many bouts to recap individually with 15 fights over the weekend for us, resulting in 7 wins and 8 losses. Not the ratio we were after but this is the nature of the Golden Gloves, it’s supposed to be the best fighting the best. We are proud as hell of all our boxers, regardless of their individual results. The team as a unit were tight knit, competitive and showed what a juggernaut they have made themselves. The growth we’ve seen in the last 18 months really showed this weekend, and that’s a credit to the boxers that turn up week in week out and work their asses off.

Extra awards
🏆 Jaeger Pryce 💎 - Most Scientific Youth (2nd year in a row)
🏆 Most Successful Trainer/Club With Most Wins (7) also for the second year in a row

Takes more than a couple losses to slow this train, we’re about to start a stretch of 5 tournaments over 6 weeks, let’s eat 👊🏽

Last weekend we took a few fellas up to Picton to compete. A big mihi to for putting a great event on, it was a pleasure to come and support, well done team! 3 wins from 4 with the team battling through some adversity, showing plenty of grit and getting it done.

Jo up first in what was shaping up to be a great bout. Unfortunately he dislocated his shoulder and couldn’t continue. A terrible case of bad luck but unfortunately part of the game. Rest, recovery then back in the ring.

Lucas survived a scare in the first round to come back strong against a slick southpaw winning by unanimous decision.

Phelix “Pistol” Pete!! In his 7th bout he finally cracked his first win! A testament to trusting the process, being resilient and sticking to it, Phelix boxed beautifully and got his well deserved win. Beyond proud of you young man!!

Yascha was up last for us, after breaking his hand in the first round the choice was simple - have a cast with a silver medal or a gold one, he chose gold. He bit down and ground out a win with one hand. Well done mate you showed the heart of a warrior, a good spray in the corner can do wonders sometimes!!

A big team on next weekend for the South Island Golden Gloves, where we hope to claim plenty of titles and keep the lolly jar full.

Bloody good win for the Diamond down in Gore last night 💎 thanks to the fam down there for their deep south hospitality, we’ll always support you guys and your tournaments. Was great to spend some time with the lads from too.

Jaeger gave up weight and experience and did everything right to secure a second round stoppage victory. About bloody time he got someone out of there early! There may be some people that think the fight may have been stopped prematurely, we’d be happy to have a rematch any time if there’s any doubts.

Nice drive through the night to get back to the 03 at 5am this morning, straight back to the gym today. Next hit out in a fortnight on the CBA Match Bout Tournament where we have 10 boxers matched.

Well done to our Habibi on a dominant display last night on ’s tournament. Up against an imposing Australian opponent Ahmad found his big left hand down the pipe and worked it well. His best display for months, he showed what he can do when he’s switched on. We look forward to him continuing to gain monentum this year.

South Island Novice Champs 🥊

Massive mihi to for running a tight ship as always. Awesome to see the quality of South Island boxing at the moment, some absolutely cracking bouts over a massive weekend.

We had 9 boxers matched out of 13 entries, and all of them fought their hearts out, we’re proud as hell of everybody. 9 fights on Saturday, a mix of semi-finals and finals, coming away with 6 wins, 2 of which were first round KOs. Sunday we were in 3 finals, winning 2 of them. To see the club in such numbers both competing and supporting was a highlight, the culture in the club is at an all time high.

A successful weekend, topped off picking up the shield for the club with the most wins, sets the tone for the year, now we work 👊🏽

Full house last night for our quiz night, our first fundraiser for the year.

What an amazing turnout, it was surreal to see the amount of people there in support of our club. We’re very grateful to have such awesome backing from our community.

Special and biggest thankyou has to go to Mel Shatford, our fundraising queen. We couldn’t do what we do in the ring without your efforts behind the scenes. Shoutout to Belfast RFC for the use of the clubrooms, perfect set up! Thankyou to everyone who gave auction & raffle items, entered teams, bought raffle tickets, and everyone that made the night what it was.

Novice champs next weekend, let’s eat 👊🏽
