Auckland Rugby Union Supporters Club

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Anne Gates a dedicated and passionate supporter of Auckland Rugby and former Secretary for the Junior Rugby Foundation.

For many years, she travelled alongside the Supporters Club, cheering on the Auckland team with unwavering enthusiasm. Her commitment extended beyond the stands where she played a pivotal role in shaping opportunities for young athletes.

As the former Secretary of the Junior Rugby Foundation, Anne played a pivotal role in establishing and overseeing the School Bursaries programme. Since its inception in 2000, she was instrumental in driving the initiative forward, ensuring the awarding of 223 School Bursaries until she stepped down in 2017. Recipients of these bursaries included the likes of Ben Atiga, Patrick Tuipulotu, Sam Tuitupou, Ben Stanley, Rieko Ioane, Ofa Tu’ungafasi, and Harry Plummer.

Her tireless efforts have left an enduring legacy, one that will continue to empower future generations.

In recognition of her remarkable contributions, in 2019 the Junior Rugby Foundation Personal Development Grant was named in her honour, ensuring that her passion for supporting young talent lives on.

Our hearts go out to Anne's family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. We hope they find comfort in the profound impact she made and the legacy she leaves behind.

May you rest in peace Anne.
