Past or present Mangakahia Rugby players, if you’re 35+ we want you!

We’re putting together a crew for a Goldies Oldies Footy game on 17 October at Pohe Island.

Nothing too serious, just a chance to dust off the boots, have a run around, catch up with some familiar faces and have a few laughs while you’re at it.

Last week we held our 2026 Junior Rugby Season Prizegiving over four nights where we celebrated another stellar season of Rippa and Rugby for our kids, from our Under 5 cuties all the way to our 15a-side Under 13 grade.

We also acknowledged our current President (who might just be *unofficially* the youngest
NZ Rugby club president) Bailey Shelford with the aptly named President’s Cup. This award is voted by the Committee members each year and acknowledges the contribution and influence Bailey has had on the Club this season. He epitomises the mana and kaha of Mangakahia RFC and its importance in our community, acting with integrity and holding the Club’s best interests at heart.

We also awarded the Team of the Year trophy to our Under 13 squad, several of whom were invited to trial for the Under 14 Grizzlies squad, including our superstar, Tawhai! Not only have this team overcome serious injury and illness this season, and played against tough opponents and odds, but have held their heads high and soldiered on throughout. Their parents, coaching and management team have also epitomised the spirit of the community and the grassroots rugby can-do attitude, organising a tournament squad including a few of our U12 players, to attend the Taupo Global Games this past weekend. Congratulations to our Mangakahia 2026 Team of the Year, the Under 13s!!!

As our club continues to grow, and as we head into our 100th season of Rugby at Mangakahia RFC, we are so proud of each and ever child who chooses to wear our mighty black and blue strip and who play with Mana and Kaha every time they do. Our Club runs on people power and we are so grateful to each whanau, parent or guardian that supports that child to be at trainings and games, and every volunteer at our Club Days, Fundraising Dinners, Country Meals and every other opportunity to support our club behind the scenes.

To our coaches, managers, junior coordinator, Kirsty and the parents who help out at trainings and game days, NGA MIHI NUI!! We couldn’t do it without you. We wouldn’t have a rugby club if you didn’t give up your time, energy and Saturday mornings for the game we all love. We appreciate your dedication, support and feedback throughout the season.

We hope to see you all back on deck next year. Remember, Pre-season training starts now and you can never be too fit, come the 2027 season 😉

🏉 NORTHLAND CLUB DAY ROUND | MANGAKAHIA PARADE 🖤💙

Northland’s Club Day Round is happening Saturday 26 September, and we want to get a big Mangakahia crew together for the club parade between the FPC and NPC games!

You don’t have to be a current player or active member of our club to join us. Past players, supporters, whānau and anyone who wants to represent Mangakahia is welcome.

Wear your Mangakahia colours or club gear and come walk with us! It’s a great chance to show off Mangakahia, and there’s even a **Positive Vibes Shield** up for grabs for the club bringing the best energy!

🏉 Meet at the West field entrance by 1.15pm
🏉 We’ll walk onto the field at approximately 1.20pm.

Morena! Unfortunately our Foundation L1 Coaching Course will be postponed for next weekend (please see new details below). We have had a great response to our EOI with close to 30 registrations so far and will look forward to catching up next Sunday!

What a massive couple of weeks ago it has been for Rugby in Northland!! And even though it’s officially the end of the junior rugby season in Whangarei, we at Mangakahia aren’t done yet with some post-season games being played and tournaments to attend.

It takes a LOT to run a junior rugby club and we just want to take this opportunity to make a shout out to our players, parents, grandparents, whanau, friends, coaches, managers, sausage sizzlers, fundraiser supporters, raffle sellers, sideline supporters EVERYONE who keeps the black and blue machine humming along! We couldn’t do it without you all.

💙🖤From us all at Mangakahia Rugby Club we want to say a huge thank you for everything you’ve put into your club this season and for your continued support and loyalty. We really do appreciate you all and hope to have you back with us again next season 🖤💙

🏉 100 YEARS OF MANGAKAHIA RUGBY | WE WANT YOUR IDEAS! 🖤💙

2027 is a pretty special year for us… Mangakahia Rugby Club turns 100!

To celebrate, we want to create something new, fresh and uniquely OURS for our centenary supporters gear.

We’re calling on our Mangakahia whānau to send us your ideas for artwork, patterns, graphics or a sublimation-style design that could be used alongside our club logo across hoodies, jerseys and other 100-year supporters gear.

You don’t need to be a designer. A sketch, digital design, pattern or even a rough idea is enough.

Be part of shaping Mangakahia Rugby history and help create something our community can wear with pride in our 100th year.

The carpark upgrade project was tracking well through winter, however a recent inspection uncovered some unexpected drainage issues, which has led to the need for more testing and a seasonal delay in the seal programme.
