Originally from Dunedin, he is now the owner and head coach at Checkmat Christchurch .christchurch

Why the heck not?!!

Firstly, we think our fighters deserve to have a big night put on for them. Fighting at this level means there has been a lot of sacrifice and training going on behind the scenes. This night is about honouring our fighters and giving them an event and platform to showcase all their hard work.

Secondly, making it black tie optional has meant the standard of service on the night needs to be elevated. This elevation led us to collaborate with several other small businesses meaning the love is being spread around with multiple businesses benefitting.

And finally, a black tie optional event give YOU the opportunity to dress up , and who doesn’t like getting all fancy! 🕺💃

Introducing the two grapplers behind Centre Stage Combat and its Origins event...

Joe and Lloyd are keen competitors in submission grappling, and are huge fans of combat sports in general.

Having previously dipped their toes into the organisation of other grappling events, they set their sights on creating an event that gave local amateur athletes an opportunity to compete at a high level production alongside more elite athletes. This idea then snowballed into Centre Stage Combat: Origins 💪 Queenstown’s Original Black Tie Combat Sports Fight Night!
