Well. No broken bones for Hunter and off to physiotherapy next week to get referred for a scan on possible MCL tear.
We hope not, as it is quite a serious injury. He is still in a bit of pain but as always in good spirits.
Thank you so much for the calls and messages. They mean a lot.
In the ambulance he asked if his bike was ok. Bless him 😂

Not the end to the day we wanted. Big cross rut over a jump. Very sore thigh. Off to Dunedin for X-rays on suspected broken femur. Was riding very well until this.
This southern series has not been a good one for Hunter.
On the good stuff now so not feeling a thing.

Thanks to everyone who’s checked in on Hunter after his rather spectacular crash in the third race today 😂

Appears he cross-rutted going up the jump and went for a wee mid-air spin that definitely wasn’t part of the race plan. Bike went one way, Hunter went the other, and gravity took care of the rest. 💀😂

He’s been checked out at hospital and thankfully he’s all good — nothing broken, just bruised, battered and probably going to wake up tomorrow feeling about 90 years old.

We’re bloody proud of his efforts today. He gave it everything, got back up, and thankfully walked away in one piece — that’s a win in our books.

Few bruises, slightly damaged pride and another story for the collection. 😂

Big shout out to Motoworx Winton and Justin Shaw. He had just got home from work today Saturday when he got the distress call from us. Hunter was racing the Southland champs today when he completely wreaked his clutch and with the first round of the Southern Series which is our main series on tomorrow. We were sure our series was over but no, Justin didn’t have a clutch on the shelf but stripped one out of a new bike for us and by the time we got to Winton he was waiting to get Hunter back racing tomorrow. This is why we love Motoworx Winton as they go the extra mile to support their clients. Haven’t seen clutch plates broken like this before with bits through the casings but all removed flushed out and we are back.
You are a legend Justin. Thank you so much. One very happy boy.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, stepdads, foster dads, grandads and father figures out there — but especially ours. ❤️

Our team mechanic, coach, manager, pit crew, fixer of everything, taxi driver, problem solver and biggest supporter. 🏁🔧

But more importantly, the one who is always there for our kids. The one standing on the sidelines, waiting at the finish line, fixing whatever they’ve broken, picking them up when things don’t go to plan and quietly backing them every step of the way. ❤️

They know that no matter what happens, you’re in their corner — and that means more than any trophy, result or finish line ever could.

There are a million things you do behind the scenes that probably go unnoticed, but our kids are incredibly lucky to have you, and Team Meikle simply wouldn’t be Team Meikle without you.

A pretty special day for the Meikle family at the 2026 SDBR Prizegiving! 🏁💚

🏍️ Hunter set himself one goal at the start of the season—to finish inside the Top 10 in the incredibly competitive Junior A class. Racing against a field of 30+ riders, he didn’t just achieve his goal… he smashed it with an outstanding 4th Overall. We couldn’t be prouder of the dedication, determination, and hard work he’s shown all season.

🏍️ Paige was also recognised, receiving her trophy for finishing 2nd at the 2026 Club Championships—a special reminder of what was her last ride.

The highlight of the day was the Meikle family being honoured with the Hard Charger Award. This recognition celebrated our family’s continued commitment and contribution to the club over many years, along with the fact that three generations of Meikles have shared a passion for motocross racing.

Having three generations together to accept the award made the moment even more meaningful. It was a proud reminder that motocross is about so much more than trophies—it’s about family, friendships, giving back, and being part of an incredible community.

A massive thank you to Southern Dirt Bike Riders, the volunteers, officials, committee members, and everyone who works behind the scenes to make this club what it is.

Cromwell Training Day 🏁🔥😂

Deegs finally ticked off a couple of jumps he’s been looking at for a while. After months of rolling them, sizing them up, overthinking them and finding every excuse under the sun, he finally decided today was the day to just send it.

And bloody hell, he did. 🚀

The confidence is building every ride and today was one of those days where everything seemed to click. Faster, smoother and looking more comfortable every lap.

Dad spent most of the day doing what all motocross parents do:

“Take it easy mate.”

Then immediately pulling his phone out to get a video when things got sketchy. 😂

Motocross parenting is a strange hobby. You spend thousands on bikes, gear, fuel and tyres, only to stand beside a track cheering while your child actively tries to leave the planet.

The progress today was unreal though and it’s awesome seeing all the hard work starting to pay off.
