Keeping this client safe whilst she navigates coordination and unilateral movement with a bit of freedom in her joints. Taking the pressure off her body on The Cadillac with the 90/90 support of the legs.

Her hands are holding large Franklin Balls to open up the palm and fingers (as this client also has parkinsons the hand scrunches up in a claw)

We practice swinging the legs in and out. I assist with circles and deeper movements so she can "feel" and not have to think too much.
Big movements of the arms plus individual sides, some neck release on the soft ball. This session she lasted 50mins which is wonderful.

Dads get a lot of slack these days about not going through what the mothers do on a daily basis.....and trust me as a working mum of 2 I get it.
However what I see in the studio are dads who are working really hard, staying up all night with the baby or co-sleeping with a toddler, renovating their homes, taking the kids out on adventures, dealing with sickness and still crawling their way into Pilates classes late at night because they say "it keeps them going".....and quite literally in support of the mothers/partners.

At 6ft 3In this dad managed a good Pilates ending on the Cadillac.

He may have been 6ft 4inches when he left 😅

The Balanced Body foam arc is made with portable use in mind on their Reformers.

The Control Balance Front is an advanced exercise usually with hands on the shoulder rests. It is advanced because not only is the body elevated on a machine.....the carriage itself is not fixed, it is only attached by springs.

Understanding how to stabilise the body and control the movement into spring tension and release, is the challenge of this exercise.

So retirement here in NZ is 65. The amount of 65+ clients I have that only start a mindful movement and corrective exercise journey then is astounding.

Young people and parents are time poor.....so the quick 45min drop in class moving as much as possible can be so mindless and disconnected.....but thats not anyone's fault...thats our life.

But what if we really appreciated the feeling of our body in movement?

What if you learnt and understood your body parts and their optimum function?

Then you go to golf....to pickle ball......on a bike ride.....skiing.......and its like WOW. I get it now!

And it feels amazing.

Moving with your kids builds essential physical, mental, and emotional skills while strengthening your bond. Shared active play releases endorphins that reduce stress and improve focus for everyone. It establishes lifelong healthy habits, boosts brain development, and improves emotional regulation and sleep.

I am not a gymnast in the slightest......so the Pilates apparatus that is "The Ladder Barrel" is my favourite place to play.

No matter the age or gender, I have all my clients practise "hanging" or "pull up" exercises.

Using the Cadillac/Trapeze Table is a great place to safely explore load and endurance.

1. A modified pull up in a lunge position. Holding for 10 seconds, 6 times on each side.

2. A modified "dead hang" with some knee tucks added in to advance it.

Hanging exercises—or "dead hangs"—improve physical resilience in aging populations by decompressing the spine, improving joint lubrication, and directly loading the wrist and shoulder bones. Additionally, maintaining grip strength through hanging serves as a scientifically backed indicator of overall physical longevity and vitality

A lovely reminder that I did indeed, once upon a time, make videos. So funny how the littlies always appeared once I pressed record 🤔

The memories are my favourite part.

We should move our spines because movement is the primary way the spine maintains its health and function. Unlike muscles, the intervertebral discs that cushion your spine do not have their own blood supply; they rely on the "pump" of movement to absorb vital nutrients, stay hydrated, and flush out waste products.
