No matter the age or gender, I have all my clients practise "hanging" or "pull up" exercises.
Using the Cadillac/Trapeze Table is a great place to safely explore load and endurance.
1. A modified pull up in a lunge position. Holding for 10 seconds, 6 times on each side.
2. A modified "dead hang" with some knee tucks added in to advance it.
Hanging exercises—or "dead hangs"—improve physical resilience in aging populations by decompressing the spine, improving joint lubrication, and directly loading the wrist and shoulder bones. Additionally, maintaining grip strength through hanging serves as a scientifically backed indicator of overall physical longevity and vitality

A lovely reminder that I did indeed, once upon a time, make videos. So funny how the littlies always appeared once I pressed record 🤔
The memories are my favourite part.
We should move our spines because movement is the primary way the spine maintains its health and function. Unlike muscles, the intervertebral discs that cushion your spine do not have their own blood supply; they rely on the "pump" of movement to absorb vital nutrients, stay hydrated, and flush out waste products.
I have been working with this client for 9 years. In her 60s and very active in her beautiful garden, cleaning her airbnb constantly, wanting to bike the wonderful trails with her husband........and yes we are still doing all those things well.
This client has severe scoliosis, a rod in her back as a child did nothing. Her ribs touch her hip on one side. She has broken her wrists from tripping over......with hypermobility disorders like EDS, all the things become more fragile post menopause.
But we still do push ups! 💪😉
Yes i am going to say it.......when life gives you lemons 🍋 ..............
Some things are out of our control.....some things we lose control over, however for the brain, exercise and coordination focused movement will always be the top prescription.
There are good days and bad days for sure, but even the social contact, the showing up for the appointment and maybe just doing small movements is still good for the brain, the heart and the soul. I like to ask questions about beautiful memories to aid in the ability to move. A positive memory does wonders for connection to the body when there is stagnation or they feel like a tonne of lead.

The kids are always stealing my props.....but now the dogs..... a new level has immerged 🙄
The pilates ring is Mr King Kauri's pick of the week. Mr Manuka prefers the spikey balls ha ha.
Releasing the serratus anterior (via foam rolling or stretching) reduces shoulder tension, relieves chronic neck and back pain, and corrects rounded shoulders by reducing excessive protraction. It improves shoulder mobility, prevents rotator cuff issues, and fixes "winged" scapula by enabling proper shoulder blade movement against the ribs.
This release literally changed my life!
