Good bu**er Liam’s back, and either the trout were shaking in their fins and hiding from us out of fear, or simply not feeding. I think it was the latter.

We switched accesses a few times cherry picking the best of the water with very little feeding activity found, yet we dealt with the wind, worked every opportunity well and ended up with a few to the net.

So turned out after sounding out a high useage
Passage to a feeding area, I literally watched grass grow for three hours. Snuck in early, waited, waited, was waiting for dusk but the wind kept swirling….. wind was great for my ambush,
Then around 7pm Switched 180 degrees and after 3 hours of waiting heard an animal crash away into the distance from maybe 50m
Up the gully. I swore, very loud, and came back to Lumsden. Tomorrow at 5am is another day….

A great day out with local good bu**ers Brian and Di showing them the ropes and as it turns out, how to find fish and get eats on what was a pretty tough day.
Ive taken the first part of October kind of easy this year, spending river time to myself and enjoying time with a few select clients and friends. A couple of days bowhunting for me now, and then the season ramps up… bring it on!

Fish were spitting flies quicker than we could hit them today, with several missed in quick succession.
To be fair, the first eat could have been called a little sooner by the guide 😩😂
