We welcome today’s announcement by Conservation Minister Tama Potaka that he will remove controversial disposal and exchange provisions from the Conservation Amendment Bill.
Minister Potaka made the announcement as part of an Environmental Defence Society panel session chaired by our CE Corina Jordan in a session delving into how we manage tensions between use and protection on our public lands.
Fish & Game represents 175,000 anglers and game bird hunters who are among the most active users of the conservation estate, and among its most committed guardians.
The Conservation Act needed to be updated and this bill provides a chance for us to strengthen the recognition of angling and game bird hunting in legislation and ensure access for and fishing and game bird hunting is protected and enhanced.
Fish & Game will continue to constructively work with the Government and parties to progress this bill and ensure that our values are recognised and the species we value have a place in this legislation.
