Had a great time down at MainPower Stadium to begin testing some of their NC Sports Fitness Centres Academy athletes. Up first we had Henry Webb who is a quality field hockey player.
We could have just thrown him on the treadmill for a VO2max test, but we are all about sport specific testing. We decided to run the 30/15 IFT whilst wearing the VO2 Master
30 seconds running, 15 seconds recovery, speed increasing every stage until failure. The final speed reached (VIFT) tells us how well an athlete copes with exactly the kind of repeated, intermittent effort hockey demands, not just how fast they can run in a straight line.
We paired it with the VO2 Master to see whatβs happening physiologically underneath that score, oxygen uptake, breathing, heart rate, all captured live through the test.
VIFT tells us how well they handle the intermittent demand, the VO2 Master tells us what their heart and lungs were doing to get them there, together itβs a performance number backed by a physiological one, not just a stopwatch reading.
More academy testing over the next 2 weeks.
If you are a teamsport player or coach and would like to do some individual or team testing, please get in touch.
