When it comes to our kids, it’s so easy to think “They’ll grow out of them in five minutes anyway!” 😅 But good, correctly fitted footwear is actually really important while their feet are growing.

Kids’ feet are still developing, and they’re also incredibly active…running, jumping, climbing, playing sport and spending hours on their feet every day.

A shoe that doesn’t have a good quality and stable sole, or that’s too small, too narrow, too big or simply the wrong shape can affect how comfortably they move and may contribute to the structure of their feet, ankles, knees and hips growing out of alignment, or cause changes in the way they walk and run.

A good kids’ shoe should have:
✔️ The right amount of growing room
✔️ Enough width for their toes
✔️ A secure fit around the heel
✔️ Good cushioning and support for what they’re using it for
✔️ A high quality construction of the sole

Every child’s feet are different, which is why we really believe in fitting the child, not just selling the shoe size.

When your bat needs in a new grip, pop in and grab one and bring your bat with you and we can pop it on for you!

How cool is this! The amazing Annabel from Fernside School is always such a wonderful supporter of our shop for their schools sports equipment…and this time when she ordered 10 PVC shot puts, we were so stoked to be able to gift them for free to the school from our School & Club Give-Back Project!

At the end of 2025, we introduced our Club & School Give-Back Project — an initiative close to our hearts here at The Sport Shop. It’s all about supporting the heartbeat of New Zealand sport: our schools, our clubs, our kids, and our communities.

Here’s how it works. Every customer in our loyalty programme earns a $10 store credit for every $300 they spend. On top of that, we match it — donating an additional $10 to a school or club of their choice.

So, for every $300 one of our customers spends with us, a local school or club receives $10 to use in-store. Simple, and pretty powerful.
