🥋 In Memory of Sensei Andrew

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our friend and fellow Goju Ryu practitioner, Sensei Andrew from Wakefield, Nelson.

I first met Andrew while I was working in Nelson and needed a club to train at. Andrew welcomed me in and was keen to swap ideas on karate. Over the years I came to really appreciate his friendship and his passion for karate.

Some of the best memories are from the Karate Friendship Camp that Andrew organised many years ago, bringing together so many like-minded martial artists from different clubs.

Our sincere condolences go to Andrew's family, his students, friends, and everyone at Wakefield Karate Club.

Rest in peace, Andrew.

For just $2, you can purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win an amazing Easter hamper, with all proceeds going directly back into supporting our club, its activities, and training equipment. The winner will be announced on Thursday, 2 April, at the end of the kids' training session. To purchase tickets, please get in touch. We are grateful for your support.

At the end of last year, we kicked off our fundraising efforts for the club with a cash raffle. Last week, we finally sold the last ticket on the sheet and were able to draw a winner.
🎉 Congratulations to Rachel P., who received the $100 cash prize! 🎉
A big thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket and supported our fundraising efforts — we really appreciate it.
As a non-profit karate club, we’ll be running more fundraisers over the next year and a half to help keep training fees as low as possible, so karate remains affordable for everyone. These efforts will also help subsidise costs for our senior students’ 2027 trip to Okinawa, where they’ll have the opportunity to train with the masters.
