This was posted earlier and there has been a reasonable response and a few questions and updates. Anyone from any era can attend but of course, may appeal more to those that were about during that early and subsequent years.
Linda is extending the registration out to strictly 13th September 26 but they really need a good idea of numbers so they can do some budgeting and planning etc. So if you were thinking of attending please drop Linda an email asap. (details below)
We are looking to combine this event with a practice, and in particular gathering up as many of the Vintage Class as we can for a run on that day, so if that could be noted in diaries for confirmation closer to the date as well.
Original post and now confirmed for the 10th of October.

Back in the day, the roar of the engines, the dust in the air, and the camaraderie in the pits, made Paradise Valley Raceway a special place for many of us.
On behalf of Lydia Flintoff and other earlier Club members, we are now seeking expressions of interest for a ๐๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐จ๐ง/๐๐๐ญ๐๐ก-๐๐ฉ for drivers, members, families, and their children, who were part of the Paradise Valley Raceway scene, during the years of ๐๐๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐๐๐.
This invitation also extends to those drivers who were registered with other tracks at the time, but who regularly travelled to compete at Paradise Valley Raceway.
The aim is simple โ to get together once again, share a few stories, remember the good times, and reconnect with old friends from those memorable racing days.
We hope many of you can join us, to
The date is:
๐๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐ (Confirmed)
The proposed programme would be:
- 2.30pm start and Speeches

The ToolShed Paradise Valley Speedway, โSpeedway of the Year, Private or Professionally Promotedโ plus!!!! โThe Makita NZ Stockcar Teams Champs โ National Event of the Yearโ, now how good does that sound!!!!!
Of course, none of this would happen without the incredible team of people who make our events come to life. To the over 80 Volunteers, Rotorua Clubs, Dadโs Army and contracted employees on an ordinary race night, or over 100 on big events, take a bow this is all yours.
Each and everyone one of you is a spoke in the wheel that combined make it solid and run freely. Ie there is no event unless the man/lady on the pit gate shuts it so we can go racing. The Team at our โBig Little Trackโ are simply the best, each playing their part to the best of their ability and often beyond.
To all the competitors who choose to race at the ToolShed Paradise Valley Speedway, thank you for your continued support, there is of course no show without a full field of competitors, whether that be Superstocks or Production Saloons.
Whilst the weather threw everything at us this last season, we were fortunate to have a good run through the Makita NZ Stockcar Teams Championship. For that particular event, I must commend our infield staff, they truly stepped up and produced a show that was as professional as we could possibly do, helped by the addition of the Manitou sourced and operated by Craig Beaumont. Thank you. It was one of those events that at the conclusion there was an immense satisfaction that each and every staff member had collectively put together an amazing event for the Competitors and crowd alike. Being awarded the Top Event for the year from our controlling body cemented that we had all done our job and produced a great show. We would like to thank Makita for the Sponsorship of the event for a second year. Hopefully our Rascals can go south and bring it home again!!!!
To The ToolShed who were new sponsors last year. Thank you for your leap of faith and sponsoring the 2025/26 Speedway of the Year!!!. We are incredibly grateful that you are back on board again for the 2026/27 race season.
I would also like to acknowledge two other trophy recipients at the Awards. Both have a long association with the Rotorua Stockcar Club, but their awards were for their efforts on a National Level. Kevin Orr as Best Senior Official and Mike Miller who was the recipient of the Jake Pulman Award of Excellence for all the years and commitment he has given to Speedway in NZ. Big congrats to both these men who have dedicated virtually their whole lives supporting Speedway locally and throughout NZ.

Rip Al Spanhake. One of the nicest people you would ever want to meet, and one of the Worldโs โReal Good Buggersโ!!! A spade was a spade, and you knew where you stood. Thatโs when you werenโt having a real good belly laugh with him or just to stop for a good old yarn, and there were plenty of those with a good bit of hard case banter as well.
The Man who turned up at the working bees and always willing to give a hand wherever and whenever he could. There are so many spots around the venue where Al and his trusty hammer have left their mark.
The Man who was there year after year supporting the Rotorua Rebels and much loved Dad to Jody and Dad and Chief Crew man of 68R Keith Spanhake. He was just a pleasure to be around and will be sadly missed by not only his Whanau but soooo many people who loved being in his company.
From everyone at the Rotorua Stockcar Club our deepest sympathy go to Keith, Jody and their extended Whanau.
Alโs funeral will be Saturday 13th June at Kawerau Town Hall at 10:30am, Followed by his burial at Kawerau Cemetery.
