108 Sun Salutes!! Amazing effort team so proud of you all 🥰 We did it, flowing together like a murmeration of yogis! Winter solstice is in 2 days then the days start growing longer once again ☺️❤️🤩

If you want to know why 108 ?? Ancient Vedic astronomers noticed that the distance from Earth to Sun ≈ 108 times the Sun’s diameter. The distance from Earth to Moon ≈ 108 times the Moon’s diameter
So 108 connects you to the 2 main “lights” in the sky that regulate day/night, tides, seasons. Doing 108 sun salutes = aligning with that ratio.

The cosmos mapped
Vedic cosmology says the universe is made of 9 planets × 12 zodiac signs = 108. That’s the whole celestial map. Your mala has 108 beads to symbolize completing the full cosmic cycle as you chant/meditate.

Hey people of Insta, haven’t been here in a while! Thought I’d post something from this mornings practice. Something meaningful and helpful. Meaningful because stepping on my mat 5/6 times a week for 30 years is an act of devotion to discipline, to focus and to honour that I am worth it. Helpful because we all know karandavasana is hard - especially in the cold of winter. This version is me being kind and gentle to my body not push push pushing 🤪🙈 I hope it helps encourage and support you to also be kind and gentle to yourself 🥰I’ve been practicing the lowering aspect of this pose with control - this means finding a way to get to that point without tiring myself out trying to fold into lotus whilst in pincha.

As you can see instead the easier path is to lift from headstand then lift to pincha once my legs are folded. Oh and did you notice I also float up with my first leg in lotus too - waaaaaaaayyy easier that was too 🤩☺️

Come and join us to celebrate the Winter Solstice with 108 Sun Salutes! A true Meditation in Motion Thurs 18th June from 5.30pm, members FREE non members $25. The number 108 carries deep symbolic meaning in yoga and many Eastern traditions. At a simple level, it’s about focus and endurance. Repeating the sun salute sequence 108 times becomes a moving meditation: your breath, body, and mind start to sync, and distractions fall away. It’s challenging, but also rhythmic and calming once you settle into it. The number itself is where it gets interesting. In yoga philosophy and related traditions:

🔥 There are said to be 108 energy lines (nadis) that converge at the heart.
🔥 A traditional mala (prayer bead necklace) has 108 beads, used for meditation.
🔥 In astronomy, the distance between the Earth and the Sun is roughly 108 times the Sun’s diameter, which adds a cosmic layer of meaning.

The practice of doing 108 sun salutes is often treated as a kind of ritual or reset. It’s commonly practiced at times of transition—like the change of seasons, solstices, or the new year—to mark letting go of the old and welcoming something new. 21st June marks the winter solstice, our practice will run from 5.30pm - 7pm on Thursday 18th, members FREE non members $25. By the end, most people feel both exhausted and surprisingly clear - like they’ve worked through something, not just in the body, but in the mind too.

If you’re ever thinking of trying it, it’s completely OK to modify, rest, or even do a smaller number. Let me know you're keen!

Looking forward to the Ashtanga Yoga workshop coming up next month!! Come join me for 10 hours of Ashtanga 15th - 17th May 🙂 This promises to be a beautiful space for connection, growth, support and fun. We'll delve into asana/postures and movement exploring the Primary and a little Intermediate series. Share pranayama/breathwork, lengthening, deepening and playing with our lung capacity. Practice mindfulness, awareness, the art of stepping into new spaces, and one of my favourites: the neuro science behind how we build habits, how to motivate ourselves and tools to stay focused.

If you want to step deeper into your yoga practice, come and ask questions, share delicious food and immerse yourself in a weekend of nurturing, challenging, inspirational yoga. Teaching for over 20 years, come join our beautiful friendly shala. Limited spaces, message me to sign up!
