🎣 A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR JUNIOR MEMBER, OLLIVER PASK! 🎣

What an incredible year Olliver has had! 👏👏

Our very own Taupō Fishing Club junior member has been recognised for an outstanding season of fishing, including being named NZ Sport Fishing Council Junior Angler of the Year and achieving an International Game Fishing Association World Record for landing an 18kg yellowfin tuna on 8kg line! 🌎🏆

Olliver has also achieved a NZSFC record for a kahawai on a 10kg fly tippet, along with an impressive list of TFC records — including heaviest junior trout, heaviest brown trout, snapper, tuna, kingfish, saltwater fly catch and catch-and-release shark. 🎣

His dedication, persistence and passion for the sport are a fantastic example of what can be achieved by our young anglers. Even when the fish don’t come, Olliver’s philosophy is simple: keep heading out, keep learning and don’t give up.

Congratulations Olliver, an outstanding achievement and something for the whole TFC whānau to be proud of! 👏🎣🏆

It’s school holidays and Olliver Pask is fishing when we track him down to discuss his record-breaking year on the end of a fishing rod.

🎣 A great night at TFC! 🎣

Another fantastic evening at the club, with plenty of delicious nibbles, lots of laughs and, of course, heaps of fishing talk! 😊

Congratulations to Cherry Twaddle, our lucky draw winner, who unfortunately wasn’t at the club to claim her prize.🎉👏

Thanks to everyone who came along and helped make it such an enjoyable night. It’s great to see members getting together, sharing stories and enjoying each other’s company.

Looking forward to the next one! 🎣🍻

Great news for still water trout fishing fans - Lake Otamangakau opens tomorrow, and data from the fish trap suggests the fishery is in great condition for the new season.

Trap results this year confirm the regulation changes put in place in 2022 have had a positive impact on large trout. This is pleasing to see and provides a solid platform for the upcoming fishing season. A full summary of the results from the Te Whaiau spawning trap were published in the August edition of Taupō Fishery Focus e-newsletter.

This year marks the return of the 1 October opening day. The change from 1 September was informed by our review process, where we fine-tuned the regulation changes that were introduced four years ago to protect the future of this internationally renowned trophy trout fishery. The change should please many anglers, who found fishing conditions challenging in early September.

The fixed February closure to protect trophy trout from dangerous high surface water temperatures has also replaced with a responsive approach. The new system will only close the lake to fishing when water temperatures are dangerous for trout. More details will be released shortly.
