Taekwondo (The art of the hand and fist), Hapkido (Self Defence), Haidong Gumdo (The Enlightened Sword Art) and Teuk Gong Moo Sol (developed for evasion by the military).

Great start to new relationaships
Today, the kyorugi teams from Budo South and Team KO trained together and then sparred.
It was fantastic to see the two clubs pitting their skills against each other. Even better was the outcome - both Instructors have agreed to continue the relationship for the foreseeable future.
It takes a community to produce an international kyorugi athlete, of which variables are: sparring different people, with different styles, trying new things without the fear of failure, and enjoying the sport.
Having multi-club trainings (this year with Superior, Dynamic, Mozhdeh MA, Team KO) has only made us better, made us train harder, made us modifiy our techniques. All this raises the level of athletic performance.
May it continue.

Today is the final day of our three day sparring (Kyorugi) camp. Last week we had a three day Poomsae camp.
Next we are back to normal the training schedule (Tigers classes are back in place).
A big thank you to Andrea Kilday (of Superior Taekwondo, Auckland), who ran two of the three days training. Also to the clubs that took part, making two great school holiday events.

Developing New Zealand's Next Generation of Kyorugi Coaches

Taekwondo New Zealand is excited to announce the launch of our 2026 Kyorugi Development Series — a nationwide programme designed to support the growth of Kyorugi throughout New Zealand.

These seminars are aimed at club coaches, instructors, black belts, and senior colour belts (i.e., red belts and above; 15 years of age and over), providing practical knowledge and the latest information to take back to your club.

Seminar topics include:
✅ Current WT Kyorugi Rules
✅ WT Coaching Accreditation (Level 1 & 2)
✅ International Athlete Pathway
✅ WT World Ranking System
✅ G-Ranked Events & International Competition
✅ GMS & GAL Systems
✅ Daedo, KPNP & Waychamp PSS Systems
✅ Latest Kyorugi Coaching & Training Methods
✅ Upcoming TNZ Competitions & Events
Host Clubs Wanted!
We're now looking for clubs to host seminars in the following regions:
📍 Invercargill
📍 Dunedin
📍 Nelson
📍 Wellington
📍 Napier
📍 New Plymouth
📍 Tauranga
(Christchurch & Auckland have already secured venues.)

To host an event, clubs will need to provide:
✔ A venue capable of accommodating at least 30 participants
✔ Basic Taekwondo training equipment suitable for practical sessions
✔ A large TV screen with an HDMI port

Hosting is a fantastic opportunity to support coach development in your region and help strengthen Taekwondo across New Zealand.

Participant Information
🥇 TNZ Gold Clubs – FREE
🥈 TNZ Silver Clubs – FREE (up to 5 participants per club)
🥉 TNZ Bronze Clubs – $50 per participant (additional Silver Club participants are also $50 each)

Participant numbers may be capped depending on venue capacity, with priority given to Gold Clubs, followed by Silver Clubs and then Bronze Clubs if spaces remain.
