Developed in 2013, the Mount Monster is New Zealand's most prestigious surf lifesaving endurance race.

Athletes from across NZ gather each December on Mount Maunganui's Main Beach for their chance to race on one of the most spectacular coastlines.

Absolute day for the Dexion Mount Monster! ☀️
Once again the Mount Monster turned on the weather, the ocean played its part and we hosted the biggest international field in the toughest endurance race in NZ surf lifesaving!
Kicking off with a mass Le Mans start, battling challenging surf conditions and persevering through hot temperatures, you all conquered the Mount Monster!
Congratulations to all those who raced! To those that missed out, see you next year!

The scene is set for the 13th annual Dexion Mount Monster!
The sun will be shining, the beach buzzing and a gentle 1m wave rolling on to the shoreline as a record field prepare to conquer the Dexion Mount Monster.
The gun will go at 9am for a Le Mans start, as athletes sprint down to their ski craft before dashing to the first can for the EVES dash for cash! $500 to the first male and first female to the first can. Athletes will then settle into the iconic endurance race, tackling a 10km ski paddle, 5km soft sand beach run, 1.5km ocean swim and a 5km board paddle before we crown a champion!
We can’t wait to get the start under way! Come down and check out all the action Saturday 29th November at 9am.

🔥 The swim Leg: Not for the Faint-Hearted! 🔥
Get ready for the infamous Blow Hole Rock Jump — a daring leap straight into the deep blue of Shark Alley! 🦈🌊

Following the 10km ski paddle and 5km soft sand beach run, it’s 1.5 km of open-water swimming, but don’t get too comfortable — this leg packs a surprise 1 km run that’s caught many competitors off guard in the past. 💪🏃‍♂️

The Dexion Mount Monster isn’t for the faint-hearted — after conquering the ocean, athletes hit the sand, powering down to Tay Street and back. 💪

Every stride counts as competitors loop through transition, testing their endurance, pace, and grit against the best.

29th November, the pace will be hot on the beach!

Kicking off with a exhilarating Le Mans start for the Dexion Mount Monster onto the Ski and racing to the first can for the EVES $500 dash for cash, before settling into 10km of open ocean paddling and navigating around natural landmarks.
A PDF with a minimum of 50N is compulsory for this discipline.
The pace will be hot from the start, competition fierce and the atmosphere will be electric! This year is shaping to be the biggest year of the Dexion Mount Monster!
