Tauranga Moana turning it on for the 2026 Tornado nationals
Massive thanks to all the organisers and volunteers for making it a great event.
With a bit of everything over the 3 days the teams were well tested . Especially on Saturday with a 1.5m swell and jobbly chop with 13-18kts - lead to some good downwind sendies. 🤙
( and also some repairs in the boat yard, impressive we kept them all upright )
Congrats to Dave and Suzanne Shaw lining up a picket fence and taking the rest of us to school. Winston and Shanae closed out silver with the last race . Wayne and Sally taking home the bronze .
Great fun an camaraderie all round.
Stand by for an upcoming announcement on next years venue.

Many many giggles last weekend during the Matakana Raid
A very social event with some tight tactical battles on the water.
The tornados had a great moment on the race back Sunday , ripping thru the narrow middle channel under genaker all within 20m of each other.
Big thanks to all that helped organise and support. A smooth operation all round 🤙
Looking forward to seeing more of you geared up and launched next year

Counting down to the Matakana raid !
There’s still time to get involved.
Kicking off next Friday March 21 with the ‘ice cream race’ 1500
What’s an ice cream race you ask?
Well it’s many giggles -
Le Mans start from Typbc’s flag pole race over to the back of the iconic Mauao to devour an ice cream on pilot bay beach before racing to panepane wharf .
Each crew must relay to jump off and swim / doggy paddle to the boat before racing back to the club flag pole 🤙
Pizzas and refreshments Friday night welcome function. Very social
Saturday we send it up harbour to Omokoroa beach
For lunch / hydration 😉
Then race up to the most welcoming Athenree camp ground. Event Bbq and social event with much banter during the annual quiz.
The theme this year is dress up as ya boat name. There’s some goodies in there. 😜
Big team breakfast Sunday morning before the race back to typbc for casual prizeo and debrief .
Looking forward to lot bringing the belly laughs and banter again.
See ya next week
And get your mates to pull those cats out of the back yard.
Fun family friendly sailing weekend they don’t know what they’re missing out on.
