When in Doubt, Sit Them Out - new concussion course on Sport Tutor
How confident are the coaches, managers, volunteers and whānau in your network when it comes to recognising and responding to a possible concussion?
Sport NZ Group and ACC have recently launched When in doubt, sit them out, a free online course designed for adults supporting young people in sport.
The course brings trusted concussion information together in one place and provides practical guidance on:
• Recognising the signs and symptoms of concussion
• Knowing what to do if a concussion is suspected
• Supporting a safe return to sport
The course takes around 30 minutes to complete and can be revisited anytime.
Remember that the CMCA also has concussion protols and replacement regulations. Check section 3.9e in our Handbook;

WANT TO BECOME A BETTER COACH?
You don't need to put your coaching on hold to develop your skills.
The New Zealand Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 3) is designed to fit around community coaches and their teams.
Here's what you can expect:
- Online learning
- Around one hour of self-directed learning each week
- Six facilitated online sessions
- Connect with other coaches and experienced facilitators throughout the programme
- Apply what you're learning with your own team
- Practical assessment
- Show what you can do through coaching plans, reflections and coaching videos
- Nationally recognised qualification
Successfully complete the programme and gain the New Zealand Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 3) – 40 credits.
Who can enrol?
- Coaches aged 16+
- Coaching at least three beginner-level athletes
- Any community sporting code
- Access to the internet and a device for video recording
- Support from their club or organisation.
Enrolments are open throughout August and September.

Note * Year 10 Boys and Year 11 & 12 Boys teams are not self-nominated and teams / players will be selected and notified in due course.

Details of each actual team players individual festival costs is detailed in the season outline and schedule document linked below. This is another great opportunity to play in boys and girls matches against other boys and girls teams from throughout the South Island.

Remember to pay the deposit when you register. Registrations without deposits will not be considered.

Pre-Season training for Year 7 - Year 10 players of all abilities, sign up asap as spaces fill up fast.
South Canterbury Cricket are again providing pre-season training options for cricketers from Yr 7 to Yr 10 starting the middle weeks of the third school term on Sundays and Mondays beginning August 23rd and the registration form can be filled in below.
Girls in Year 9, 10 & 11 you will receive direct emails about a different programme for you to get up to speed.
There will be other options for older players looking for further development notified soon.
This training will take place this year over 4 weeks and is open to anyone in the listed age groups.
This is your opportunity to work on pre-season skills, technique and to get yourself up to speed for when the new season kicks off in October!
Note * For players at Year 6 or below please enter via the school holidays programme which will be available soon.
The Cost is $125 (inc GST) pp for the four two hour sessions for the Pre-season Training Programme payable to South Canterbury Cricket on confirmation of selection for the training programme. If unable to attend all four sessions it is $35 a session.
Note * dependent on numbers priority will be given to 4 session participants.
