Day 4 (Final Day) Football Tournament 2026: We played our final game of our tournament this morning with a hard fought game against Waitaki Boys. The MVHS boys played well and kept building on the work they had been doing all tournament. Again in this game they created chances in the box, but the ‘bounce of the ball’ didn’t go our way. Being down 2 goals, they continued to find ways to threaten the oppositions goal. Tyler was outstanding up front creating opportunities from combination plays with James, together they split the opposition defence apart on several occasions but just couldn’t find the final shot. Then a throw in, followed by a cross, which bounced out of the box, then Joel collected the ball and passed it to James who drove at goal and finished a good team goal! In many ways this represented the growth of the lads during the tournament, they grew in confidence and began to back their skills. Boys we are proud of you for the growth you have showed as a team. Special mention to our Year 13 players Yoshi and Kevin - thank you for all that you have contributed to MVHS football. Finally a thank you to Tina Duncan the team manager, she has worked tirelessly through the week to make sure things ran smoothly and that the boys were well looked after, thanks Tina for all of your mahi!

It was great that during tournament week our girls football team was able to play a match. Thank you to Geraldine for hosting us. Again it was great to see the girls enthusiasm for the game. well done team. and a special thank you to Chris Phillips who has done so much to work with the team this year. here’s to 2027! (or hopefully some summer futsal first!)

Day 3 Tournament 2026: On our 3rd day of tournament we had two games. Our first game was against was against Cromwell and again our lads stood up and deserved the 0-0 draw. This game represented a further growth from the group - they looked well organised and worked as a team. The player of the game was Varthin who has defended well throughout the tournament. It was then on to our afternoon game against St Kevins. Although they went down 2-0 in this game they deserved more reward from some excellent play. They created several goal scoring opportunities. Player of the match for our second game was Kevin who created genuine goal scoring opportunities and looked dangerous with his skill set. Proud of this team and their effort, skill and the way they encourage each other. Also it has been great to have whānau supporting on the sideline - thanks.

Day 2 Tournament 2026: today saw us playing two games against high quality opposition and Dunedin even showed some glimmers of blue sky! . We discussed as a team what an exciting aspect it is to come and challenge ourselves at tournaments like this, against teams we don’t usually get to play. I our first game we played Dilworth School. This was a quality team but MVHS made it hard for them. Formed on the qualities of effort and encouragement the team played really well. Although going down 3-0 they were competitive through out. James Duncan was our player of the game for his effort in the central midfield. Game 2 was against Burnside who were a quality team. The MVHS team were organised and the press from our central midfield group of Yoshi, James and Joel were dynamic and made our team very hard to break down. Although going down in this game, 3-0, the team are understanding their roles within our pattern and growing as a team. The player of the game was Joel Creba who ran tirelessly creating a great defensive screen.

Day 1 Tournament 2026: our first game at tournament was a hard fought game with only 1 goal separating the teams. Although going down the MVHS team worked hard and put together some good football moments. It was a tough outing as snow showers and icy winds were the playing conditions. Our player of the day for this game was Tyler Gosling who was dynamic at the back.

Safely in Dunedin. The MVHS boys 1st XI are looking forward to their first game. Although thermals may be required!

Special congratulations to Tyler Gosling and James Duncan who were part of the Timaru United team who won the South Canterbury Senior Mens league on Saturday. And a shout out to a host of ex Mounties who are also part of this team! Well done.

The coaches and supporters are very proud of the MVHS girls team in 2026. It has been fantastic to see the growth into footballers that our girls have made. Looking forward to the 2027 season!

Congratulations to our mixed football team who played in the annual sports exchange yesterday. It was a great game with some excellent goals! It is a great start to our teams preparing for Term 3 winter tournament week.
