Another early morning on the road, but well worth it for the brilliant day on Saturday and the last competitive chop of the season for many of us. A massive thanks to the Oroua Axemens Club for running a great day, and to Apiti Tavern & Eatery for the consistently delicious food and relaxed atmosphere. An ideal combination for another awesome day.

It's awesome to have the Central Championships back again and in full swing at the Central District Field Days. Championships mean all competitors starting on the count of three — bringing power, energy and intensity. 🪓 ☀️
A mix of Youth, Men, Women and Veterans, the competition was strong right across the board.

Thanks to the Otaki Axemen's Club for organising a super day.

Well done to Josh Berg, Chris Chilcott-Parker and Maria Honey from UHAC for their placings in their respective Championship events — a great effort all round:

Laurie Honey made heads turn at Bogan Day Out.....

The “Hot Vibranator” (coloured Hot Pink in an effort to help raise awareness for Breast Cancer) is a Canadian built Hot Saw. The 354cc power house is built from a snow mobile bottom end with a bored out CR250 top end. Running a 44mm Black Jack carburetor flowing air at around 160 cfm at a velocity of around 350 fps. The “Hot Vibranator” runs on STIHL MOTOMIX 50:1 two stroke fuel with an appropriate consumption of 200ml per second.

Operating this 32kg beast comes with its own challenges. It runs a STIHL 404 high tooth chain spinning around a custom made bar at 12000 rpm. The chain drags are filed down also. A tight fitting shirt or kidney belt is needed to prevent shirt from being sucked into carburetor. It performs a single cut through an 16” block in just under 3 seconds!

Bogan Day Out!!

We rolled in with our axes, saws and a 354cc Hot Saw — hotter than a Pepper X chilli and loud enough to enter a burnout comp at full throttle. 🪓🔥

Huge thanks to everyone who came along, joined in the fun and backed UHAC and our fellow club members. Great display, top day, good yarns, good people and plenty of sawdust flying!

The Upper Hutt Axemens Club was well represented by Josh Berg, Tom Pearce and Josh Begg at the Parikino Sports Day on Saturday, competing in another one of many fabulous settings— great competition and good honest rural surroundings. It was fantastic to see all three placing in events throughout the day and flying the club colours. 🏆

As we end the week, the Upper Hutt Axemen's Club would like to extend our thanks once again to everyone who joined us, fellow clubs, and to all who supported and contributed to making it the day it became.
From the block preparations, lead-up to the event, through the day itself, and even in the clean-up afterwards, you have all been an integral part of making the day both successful and enjoyable. Your time, effort, and enthusiasm are truly appreciated.

A huge thanks to the Akatarawa Scouts!
Our Woodchopping and Sawing Show may be over, but there’s always plenty of post-event clean-up to do. The Scouts did a fantastic job on Saturday as our clean-up crew, ensuring the ring was in top-notch condition for each event.
To top it off, their club rallied together to take away the leftover wood, which will now be turned into firewood.

Jenny Haehae - Life Membership

The Upper Hutt Axemen's Woodchopping and Sawing Show 2026 was especially memorable as we had the privilege of awarding Jenny with Life Membership.
Jenny’s connection with the club for over 50 years and her efforts have certainly not gone unnoticed. We are thrilled to formally recognise her outstanding contribution by awarding her Life Membership of the Upper Hutt Axemen Club.
