🏏 HELP TOMARATA CRICKET CLUB WITH OUR MOWER FUNDRAISER 🚜

From just three games in 2009, to rebuilding in 2020, winning trophies, bringing junior cricket back to Tomarata after more than 20 years, and now aiming for Premier Cricket — Tomarata Cricket Club is only just getting started. ❤️🏏

🏏 OUR STORY
In 2009, Tomarata Cricket Club received funding for a new artificial wicket. Unfortunately, after playing just three matches, the club was forced to dissolve due to not having enough players and numbers to continue.

In 2020, cricket returned to Tomarata.
Since then, our club has continued to grow, develop and become highly competitive. We have won several trophies, built a strong group of players and supporters, and this year reached one of our most exciting milestones — bringing junior cricket back to Tomarata for the first time in more than 20 years.

For over two decades, there had been no junior cricket in Tomarata.

Now our kids have the opportunity to play, learn and grow in their own community. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🏏
We aren't simply rebuilding a cricket team.
We're rebuilding a cricket community.

❤️ BEATING THE ODDS
I believe that at a time when many true grassroots country clubs are struggling to attract players, volunteers and community support, Tomarata Cricket Club is beating the odds and becoming a real success story.

What makes our journey so special is that it hasn't happened through one person or one group alone. It has happened because of the amazing support of our community.

From bringing cricket back in 2020, to becoming competitive, winning trophies, bringing junior cricket back to Tomarata after more than 20 years, and continuing to improve our facilities, the club has grown because people have believed in what we're trying to build.

Tomarata is proving that grassroots country cricket can still thrive when a community gets behind it.

A strong and successful Tomarata Cricket Club also helps strengthen cricket throughout our wider community, including the Rodney and Mangawhai areas.

By building a strong club, developing our juniors and providing a place for people to play and grow, we can help create more opportunities for cricket across the region.

We want Tomarata to be more than just a place where cricket is played. We want it to be part of growing the game throughout our wider community and helping inspire the next generation of cricketers.

The stronger our club becomes, the more we can contribute to the future of cricket in Rodney, Mangawhai and surrounding communities.

💪 WE'VE FACED OUR SHARE OF CHALLENGES
Along the way, we've had some unexpected setbacks.
We've had to replace our water tank and, unfortunately, a new water pump was stolen. The stolen pump resulted in flooding in our clubrooms and significant damage to our cricket equipment.
But we didn't give up.

Thanks to generous donations and the incredible support of the wider cricket community, we were able to replace the damaged equipment and keep moving forward.

To everyone who has supported Tomarata Cricket Club so far — thank you. 🙏

❤️ A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS
We would also like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to all of our sponsors who have supported Tomarata Cricket Club so far.

Your support has helped us keep cricket alive in Tomarata, maintain our grounds, replace equipment when we've needed it, and continue building a club for our senior players and the next generation of juniors.

At a time when many grassroots country clubs are struggling for support, having local businesses and sponsors willing to get behind us means so much.

You haven't just sponsored a cricket club — you've invested in our community. ❤️🏏

We genuinely couldn't have come this far without your support, generosity and belief in what we're trying to build.

🚜 OUR NEXT BIG GOAL — OUR OWN MOWER
One of our biggest ongoing expenses is maintaining our grounds.

Our cricket season runs for approximately four months, and we currently pay $225 per week for field mowing — around $3,600 every season.

Over the years, generous club members and our amazing sponsors have both helped contribute towards these mowing costs. Their support has made a huge difference and we are incredibly grateful.

However, our goal is to become more financially self-sufficient and put those funds back into developing our club, our facilities and our junior cricket.

That's why we're raising funds to purchase our own mower.

Owning our own mower would be a major investment in the future of Tomarata Cricket Club.
It would:
🚜 Reduce our ongoing mowing costs
🏏 Give us greater control over the condition of our grounds
💪 Allow our volunteers to maintain the field ourselves
🌱 Help us continue improving our playing surface
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Support the growth of our junior and senior cricket
🏆 Help us work towards our goal of Premier Cricket

🏏 WE'RE BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
We've also recently received an outstanding $30,000 grant towards improving the safety of our clubrooms, which is another huge step forward for our club.

Our members have volunteered countless hours maintaining and improving the clubrooms and grounds — often while balancing full-time work and family commitments.

That volunteer spirit is what makes Tomarata Cricket Club special.
Now we need the community to help us take the next step.

🏆 OUR VISION
Our goal is to see Premier Cricket played at Tomarata in the near future.
We want to provide high-quality facilities for our senior players, give our juniors the opportunity to learn and develop their skills, and build a cricket club that our entire community can be proud of.
After more than 20 years without junior cricket, we've finally opened the door for the next generation.
Now we want to make sure they have the facilities and equipment they deserve.

❤️ HOW YOU CAN HELP
We're calling on:
🏢 Local businesses
🏏 Former players
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families
🙌 Club members
❤️ Supporters
🌱 The wider Tomarata, Rodney and Mangawhai communities

Every contribution, big or small, gets us closer to owning our own mower.
🚜 Help us maintain our grounds.
🏏 Help us grow cricket in Tomarata and the wider community.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Help us give the next generation the opportunity to play.
🏆 Help us work towards Premier Cricket.
❤️ Help us build something our community can be proud of.

💰 HOW TO SUPPORT THE MOWER FUNDRAISER
If you would like to make a donation towards helping Tomarata Cricket Club purchase our own mower, donations can be made to:
Account Name: Tomarata Domain Society Inc
Bank Account: 02-0484-0019428-0000
Reference: Mower

Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will help us get one step closer to owning our own mower and building a sustainable future for cricket in Tomarata. 🚜🏏❤️

From playing just three games in 2009, dissolving due to a lack of numbers, rebuilding in 2020, overcoming setbacks, winning trophies, bringing junior cricket back after more than 20 years, and setting our sights on Premier Cricket...
Tomarata Cricket Club is only just getting started.

🚜🏏 HELP US GET OUR OWN MOWER.
Every dollar helps. Every supporter matters. Every contribution brings us one step closer.

❤️🏏 Let's keep cricket thriving in Tomarata, Rodney, Mangawhai and our wider community. 🏏❤️

Thank you for supporting Tomarata Cricket Club and helping us keep grassroots cricket thriving. 🙏❤️🏏

RIP Tony Edwards aka TANK , a Northland cricket legend

𝗧𝗼𝗻𝘆 '𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗸' 𝗘𝗱𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 🤍
𝟭𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟭𝟵𝟰𝟵 - 𝟭𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Tony “Tank” Edwards, a cherished figure in Northland cricket, passed away on Tuesday following a bravely fought battle with cancer.

His passing leaves a profound void in the cricketing community, where his dedication, humility, and tireless service shaped generations of players, volunteers, and administrators.

Born and raised in London, Tony attended school beside The Oval, where he worked on the scoreboard as a young man, watching greats such as Peter May and Ken Barrington. Those early experiences sparked a lifelong love of cricket. His work later took him around the world, playing the game in Italy, Greece, Holland and the Middle East before eventually settling in New Zealand with his wife, Kathy.

After arriving in Northland in 1991, Tony joined the Kamo Cricket Club, beginning more than three decades of extraordinary volunteer service. Junior cricket quickly became his passion. He coached thousands of young cricketers across Primary, Intermediate, Secondary School and club levels, guiding beginners through modified formats before supporting players as they progressed through representative pathways.

Tony served the Whangarei Junior Cricket Board for 20 years in numerous roles including delegate, Treasurer, Secretary and Chairman, and later became Secretary of the Northland Junior Cricket Board. He organised competitions, managed grounds and pitches, prepared draws and results, coordinated tournaments, and was instrumental in delivering opportunities for young cricketers throughout the region.

From the mid-1990s through the 2000s, Tony organised and managed Sub-Association tournaments involving teams from across the north, coordinated the successful Doug Thorpe Shield primary school tournament and the Whangarei Under-15 competition, and coached and managed numerous Northland junior representative teams. He also gave his time to coaching and managing junior and senior secondary teams at Whangarei Boys' High School, mentoring young players both on and off the field.

Equally significant was Tony’s contribution as an umpire. For more than 20 years he officiated senior cricket across Northland, always willing to step forward whenever a match needed an umpire. Whether it was a club fixture, school match, representative game or community competition, Tank was happy to stand in the middle to ensure cricket could go ahead. His fairness and calm presence earned the respect of players and officials alike.

Long after his own children finished playing, Tony’s commitment never slowed. He remained a constant presence at junior grounds — opening clubrooms early, setting up wickets and stumps, allocating teams, collecting results, answering questions from parents and coaches, and running the much-loved “Cricket Café,” with all proceeds returned to junior cricket. He was equally familiar running the scoreboard at Cobham Oval during domestic and international matches or stepping in as a coach, manager or organiser wherever needed.

Tony’s outstanding contribution was recognised with several prestigious honours. He received the Alan McBride Trophy at the Northern Districts Cricket Association Awards for services to junior cricket, acknowledging the immense volunteer hours he devoted to the game. In 2015/16 he was also awarded the Sir Jack Newman Award, recognising an outstanding junior cricket administrator in New Zealand for their exceptional service to the development of junior cricket.

Known affectionately as “Tank,” Tony embodied the true spirit of volunteerism. He worked tirelessly behind the scenes, never seeking recognition, simply wanting cricket to flourish and young people to feel welcome in the game.

Tony Edwards leaves behind an extraordinary legacy — seen in the thousands of players he coached, the matches he umpired, the competitions he helped run, and the vibrant junior cricket community he helped create across Northland.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever respected as one of Northland cricket’s true champions.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Kathy, his family, and all who were fortunate enough to know him

Camels v Pakiri 40 Over

Saturday seen us head over to Pakiri for our final match of the season. We had a lot to play for; Big Jonah (the battle of the hill trophy which is like the Ranfurly shield) & a win would make us first equal with Pakiri for the Rodney championship.

Winning the toss we chose to bat. Nathan Brown & Barry Hardy went out to open. Sitting on 30 for the first wicket seeing off Pakiri’s strong opening attack.

Jasnain Singh Jolly came out and smacked a quick fire 30 before going after one to many and being caught in the deep. Zeph Jones had a promotion to 4 and took his chance batting very well also making a strong 30.

Gian Botha was his usual solid self making a strong 50* and being part of a strong finish with Matthew Taylor who made 60* from 24 balls giving the Camels a score of 237.

In reply Pakiri got off to a flyer scoring 24 in the first 2 overs before the experience of Cram Farr knocked the poles out of the ground of the opening bat and first change.

A great bit of fielding from Dekan Fleming and Matty t got the crucial Pakiri wicket of Jamie Thomas who absolutely destroyed us a week earlier in the T20 final which pakiri won.

Blu Jones had a day with the ball picking up 4 for 10 with his leg spin , other wickets went to Gian and Morgan Longville

Man of the match Zeph Jones

Thanks Pakiri Cricket on a great day always played in a great spirit and for your forever legendary hospitality and thank you too all the friends , family and partners who all came out supported us on the day.

That brings the 2025 / 2026 season to a end , all in all we had a good season

Unfortunately the club was broken into between 8pm Sunday and 7am Tuesday morning

They've targeted the water pump in the home dressing room which was kindly donated to us not long ago , resulting in 10,000 liters of water flooding out the home dressing room and the middle shed ( storage )

1000s of dollars of cricket equipment has been stolen or completely damaged

We have been working very hard as a club full of volunteers to try get the place up to a respectable standard to be able to host cricket games and community events which running water is one of the first things we all need!

Please keep a eye out if you see any cheap cricket gear or a pump on market place

First photo is the damage done once the pump was disconnected and taken

Second photo is the away changing shed now cricket equipment dry room to try and salvage as much as possible!
