Refining the approach to the ball!

Bryce Shearer shared a post on Instagram: "A little drill I use to get consistency with the final approach to the ball. By shortening the run up it reduces the margin for error that comes into play in a longer approach to the ball. This means when we are in this case drilling our follow through and....

A little snippet from a kicking drill I use to drill my accuracy without any posts.
(Something I was forced to do through summer when all the rugby posts disappeared on me for cricket season 😂) turns out it was hugely helpful in improving kicking accuracy but also taking it into a game setting and picking a target that wasn’t actually the posts which helped remove A LOT of kicking pressure.

After years of working one on one with professionals rolling into the gym from 8 hours of sitting at an office desk. People that want to claim their long lost bodies back or even just get out and play with the kids a little more without the “check knees and/or lower back light” coming on. 😅

These are the guys I found need the help the most but are the last to ask for it. So here it is.. a program I have specifically developed to take an everyday person from uninspired, sore and tired to moving better, feeling better and looking better.

The lifestyle program progresses the average gym goer through a series of mobility improving drills along with body weight competence and co-ordination all in the first 4 weeks before moving onto balancing the the body from the ground up.. focusing on out working movement imbalances through years of well.. LIFE.
Finally the last 4 weeks is where we up the intensity and put to work our new grown abilities! 🔥

The goal is to get the body moving...correctly so your active lifestyle doesn’t just consist of clicking knees, broken backs and burning lungs...
My experience working with many others in the same situation helping guide you towards performing in your life!

Headstand before handstand 🙌🏼.
Getting inverted can be super intimidating for anyone new to the movement! And seeing people walking past on their hands with their backs looking like rainbows doesn’t exactly create an enticing invite to join them! 🌈🌈.

Sooo let’s grab out an abmat and build a strong base 🔨.
And that’s all about the “tripod” position! The hands make up the base of the tripod with the head moving forward to make the point of the tripod.
This creates stability and balance allowing us to extend into a headstand 🔥.
Brace that core! Squeeze that butt and lock that pelvis into place!! (This helps prevent the rainbow back 😜). Now, keep them legs straight and get the feet together. Find that balance point across you centre of mass, actively pressing through the hands (about a 60/40% weight distribution between the hands and head).
Progress the time of the holds to build confidence and consistency in the inverted position before getting into a handstand!
Build the foundation before building the tower (or attempting to 😉)

“Strict Ring Muscle-up”.
We all want that kip so bad we forget about it’s big brother... STRICT 😁.
This movement allows a reduction in dynamic intensity vs it’s kipping counterpart. This means we can spend even more time focusing on our position in the movement (think of a regular squat vs a tempo squat.. the latter gives us more time to focus on position & engagement!).
We regularly run into a couple of “roadblocks” when approaching our first strict ring muscle up..
1. Having the strength to actually pull from an active hang to sternum level & then to dip out of the deep support..
2. That false grip HURTS 😱 (well to begin with anyway).
It’s all about getting comfortable in the grip by starting small.. ring rows will be your best friend! And slowly progressing to ring pull-ups as your gain more confidence (and leather tough wrists)
Another reason I love the strict ring muscle up is it teaches the transfer from pull to deep support much more effectively than the kipping muscle-up. This gives you a HUGE advantage when the time does come to hit your first Kipping rep! 🔥... remember actually slowing things down tends to help a lot!
No matter your current level you putting work into building your strict capacity is only gonna benefit your kipping capacity.. and therefore your workout times of course 😉..
Soooo I guess it’s time to get to work 🙌🏼.
