Our friends at Coastlands Aquatic Centre are getting the Future Guards of Kฤpiti ready!

Snap up the last spots for these awesome school holiday sessions, designed for 13โ€“15 year olds who are keen to learn some seriously useful water safety skills and get a taste of life as a lifeguard.

๐Ÿ’ฆ 6โ€“8 October, Tuesday to Thursday
๐Ÿ’ฆ 13โ€“15 year olds
๐Ÿ’ฆ $120 for the full three days

Theyโ€™ll get hands-on with first aid, survival techniques, safe rescues, boat and water safety, hazard spotting and more, with plenty of time in the water too.

Did you know more than 200 local volunteers helped bring Waikanae Pools to life using some very basic equipment? Planning began in 1965, digging started in 1969, and the pool opened in 1971.

In the first photo, you can see a hole-boring machine lent by the Post Office to help prepare for the fencing. Four Post Office staff gave up their weekend to operate it. The second photo features Don Liddle, one of the projectโ€™s chief movers and shakers.

What an incredible example of our community coming together to make something happen and create something for us all to enjoy today!

How good is this crew from the Waikanae Swimming Club โ€“ looking pretty chuffed with their trophies in 1978! ๐Ÿ†

The Chairman of the Waikanae District Community Council spoke about the clubโ€™s awesome contribution to youth activities in the area, then presented cups and certificates to the successful swimmers.
