What’s the old adage about “experience counts”? This year’s winning Women’s Fours team was skipped by Alison Hebbard who started playing bowls at Port Hedland in Western Australia a mere 46 years ago in December 1980. After a stint in Omakau, Alison joined our Club in 1997. The winning third, Rhonda Hurley, was already a member of the Club having joined, along with husband Stu, in 1995. The other members of the winning team were Pauline Hope (Manager of last year’s Sevens team in Wellington) and Val Ransom, a current Board member and our current Tournament Controller. Bear in mind that the team played three games of 15 ends on the day, starting at 9.15am and finishing as deserved winners of a thrilling final at 6.35pm.
