Colorado views on an off-season adventure with RE ambassador Alexia Preston. Here's the background:

"Almost immediately after landing in Denver, we ventured out to the San Juan Mountains - a high and rugged mountain range in the Rocky Mountains in southwestern Colorado.

Our first mission was a trail run through Ice and Island Lake near Silverton, a small historic mining town nestled amongst jagged peaks. We even managed a chilly dip in Island Lake at 3,780m - a perfect way to cool down mid-run in the high altitude summer heat!

After a camp stove cooked hot meal, we woke up early the next morning to climb Mt. Sneffels, a Colorado “fourteener” that has an elevation of 4,313m. The ascent was a long, loose rocky scramble up a col that turns into a steep gully. There’s one tricky move with high exposure, and after climbing through that notch the face opens towards the summit.

The top was breathtaking - so rewarding looking out over jagged peaks and bright blue lakes below after the long climb up.

Albeit without the skis on, I had a heap of fun getting my mountain kick and romping in the high alpine hills."
