Vitamin C is one of the most important water soluble vitamins - it has been regarded as essential to everyone’s nutrition for years!⠀
⠀
It’s essential for collagen, carnitine and neurotransmitters biosynthesis. Most plants and animals synthesise Vit C for their own requirements, however apes and humans cannot, so for this reason we need to ensure we pack our diets with Vit C to reap the many benefits! ⠀
⠀
🍊Lowers blood pressure - it acts as a diuretic causing the kidneys to remove more sodium and water from the body, relaxing blood vessel walks, and therefore lowering blood pressure.⠀
⠀
🍋 Boosts immunity - stimulates the immune system by increasing its strength and protection. ⠀
⠀
🥝 Increases iron absorption - increases the bioavailability of iron from iron rich foods. ⠀
⠀
🍠 Maintains healthy skin and hair - helps build protein collagen, essential to healthy skin and hair. ⠀
⠀
🍅 Good for physical and mental health - improves your ability to heal wounds, reduces inflammation and can boost your overall energy and mood. Although hard to definitively nail down, people with higher levels of Vit C have been observed to be less likely to suffer from depression and fatigue. ⠀
⠀
Before you go reaching for the supplements try thinking about including more foods like; citrus fruits, sweet potatoes, cooked broccoli, red cabbage, green peppers, kiwi fruit, tomatoes, spinach and asparagus to give you that Vit C boost!

With the festive season quickly becoming upon us, it’s a good time to get clued up on what’s really in our drinks and what the caloric value truly represents! Thanks to for this awesome infographic ✌️🥂⠀
⠀
“It's very easy to blow a whole weeks worth of dieting in a few hours. Making self-conscious decisions with your nutrition, and knowing what you’re putting in your mouth, can make a massive difference in your progress. The most significant impact of alcohol is getting hammered and not sticking to your game plan and turning a few social drinks into a three-day bender."⠀

🍚 🙌 Know your rice 🙌 🍚 ⠀
⠀
Rice is an ancient staple of the human diet but has recently come under attack by those amongst the low carb or paleo craze as being an instant ticket to fat gain 🤦♀️ (wrong ❌ a calorie surplus of any food type will lead to fat gain).
⠀
For many cultures the simple rice grain symbolises more than food and rather represents nourishment, prosperity, beauty and even fertility (hence the custom of throwing rice at a wedding). Though other gluten free grains such as quinoa and buckwheat seem to be stealing the spotlight rice remains a nutritious and economical choice to include in your diet. ⠀
⠀
BASMATI: One of the easiest to digest particularly for those with gut issues like IBS. Contains both niacin and thiamine, 2 nutrients which support nervous system and aid in combating depression and memory loss.⠀
⠀
BLACK: Rich in antioxidants (6x higher than any other grain) black rice is seen as a superior rice choice due to its anti inflammatory properties. The deep colour of black rice comes from the antioxidant anthocyanin which is known to restrict free radicals.⠀
⠀
WILD: Botanically speaking wild rice isn’t actually rice it’s a grass. Wild rice contains an abundance of nutrients including protein, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus and zinc.⠀
⠀
WHITE: Is a refined carbohydrate similar to what’s found in white bread or cereal which means it’s husk, bran and germ are all removed. Due to this refinement process white rice doesn’t offer the same nutrients as the other rice varieties and has the highest glycemic index. ⠀
⠀
RED: Less starchy than the white varieties red rice has a low glycemic index. Red rice is coloured by the antioxidant anthocyanin and also contains manganese which can help strengthen bones, reduce joint pain, aid in weight loss and reduce PMS symptoms. ⠀
⠀
So next time your at the supermarket take a little look around the rice section and get creative with trying a new rice type at home 👏✨

We seem to love blaming rice and potatoes for our weight gain 🧐🥔🍚🙅♀️⠀
⠀
But the reality is there is so many “healthy” foods which will derail our progress before the humble grain of rice or spud will! ⠀
⠀
So next time you go to eliminate potato or rice from your diet in the hopes of accelerating fat loss, I encourage you to get a handle on your diet as a whole, look to your portions and become more informed about what some of your favourite “healthy” foods are comprised of! 👏⠀
