A large contingent converged on the Academy for the National Technical Exam Weekend over the weekend.
Seven candidates from the Wellington Judo Association presented for grade. Seven passed.

Ralph took part in the Judo New Zealand Nationals in Christchurch on 19th October where he presented two katas with partners from Budokan. Ralph and Colin won a bronze medal for their presentation of Ju-No Kata and a silver medal for Kime-No Kata with Carlton.
The kata competition was well attended this year with Kata growing in popularity with Judo players in New Zealand.

Ralph (Tawa) and Colin ( Budokan ) won Gold in presenting the Goshin Jutsu Kata at the 2025 Wellington Open in June.
Kata is becoming more popular worldwide and we encourage players to study this part of Judo, which will improve overall skills, experience, and understanding of the sport.

Upcoming competition on Kings birthday weekend 1-2 June.

Tawa Judo Club will begin Term 1 this Thursday 8th February at 5.30pm, looking forward to seeing everyone after the break!

Last weekend the 2023 Judo New Zealand National Championships were held in Porirua. The Tawa Judo Club team helped out with the setup and being Mat Stewards. Ralph was engaged as a Kata judge for Kodokan Goshin Jutsu and competed with Michael from Budokan Wellington in Katame No Kata where they won a Silver Medal.

Ralph won first place in the Wellington Open Championships in Katame No Kata with Michael from Budokan Judo Club. The two were also awarded the Bill Slykerman Cup for Excellence in Kata. A great weekend!
