It's all very well and good, people like me preaching about keeping motivated throughout your fitness journey, but sometimes this can be the most difficult part πŸ˜…

I believe that finding your "why" for staying motivated in your fitness journey is crucial to achieving overall health and wellness!

Our bodies are complex systems, and physical fitness is just one aspect of our overall health. Without a clear reason for pursuing fitness, it can be challenging to stay motivated and consistent with our efforts 😬

When you have a strong "why" for staying motivated in your fitness journey, it can provide a deeper sense of purpose and fulfilmentπŸ’«βœ¨

It can help you to prioritise self-care and make positive lifestyle changes that support your overall health and wellbeing πŸ’ͺ🏽❀️

Your "why" can be anything that inspires and drives you to take action towards your fitness goals. It could be:

Everyone has bad body image days from time to time.

These days can be challenging, but it's important to remember that they do not define you or your worth!

Here are some tips on what to do on a bad body image day:

πŸ™Œ Focus on the positives: Instead of focusing on your flaws, think about your strengths and what you like about yourself. This can help shift your mindset and boost your confidence.

πŸ§– Practice self-care: Take some time to do something that makes you feel good, such as taking a warm bath, getting a massage, or reading a book.

πŸ’ƒ Move your body: Exercise can help boost your mood and release endorphins. Even if you don't feel like hitting the gym, try going for a walk or doing some gentle yoga.

πŸ—£ Talk to someone: Reach out to a friend, family member, or therapist for support. Sometimes talking about your feelings can help alleviate some of the negative emotions you're experiencing.

Remember, bad body image days are a normal part of life.

How do you determine your progress?

I teach all of my clients that progress is not solely defined by body weight.

(Although, it's true that significant scale weight wins can be signs of progress as well!)

Body weight fluctuates daily due to SO many different things.

Including but not limited to...

πŸ‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ exercise
⏱ time of the day
πŸ’ƒ menstrual cycle
πŸ’Š medication
🀒 illness

So next time you judge your progress by looking at the scales...

Remember that the number on the scale is not everything.

It will go up and down everyday. For many reasons.

And there are SO many more productive ways to measure and determine your progress with your health and fitness.

Remember, water is the OG pre-workout, post-workout, and every-time-in-between workout drink.

You know what's "good"? Using precise language to describe your food choices instead of relying on vague terms like "good" and "bad." 😎

When you say "I've been good with my diet," it implies that eating certain foods is inherently bad, which can create a negative relationship with food and derail your fitness progress.

Instead, try using descriptive language to articulate the nutritional value of the food you're eating.

Talk about the protein, fiber, and vitamins it provides, or how it fuels your workouts and helps you recover πŸ’ͺ

This shifts the focus from moral judgments to objective information, empowering you to make informed choices that support your fitness goals 🀯

Of course, there's nothing inherently wrong with indulging in foods that don't provide much nutritional value.

But rather than labeling them as "bad," acknowledge that they're simply treats or indulgences that you enjoy in moderation.

This way, you can enjoy them without feeling guilty or sabotaging your progress πŸ™Œ

So let's retire the simplistic "good" vs. "bad" dichotomy and embrace a more nuanced, accurate way of talking about food. Your body and your taste buds will thank you!
